Grades: Only a few B’s throughout high school; mostly A’s. I took 4 AP classes and did well in all of them and I am taking one dual enrollment course this year through a community college.

Common App Essay: 8/10, I thought it was a fairly well written essay; it is very emotional and personal.
Supplement: 9/10, I really liked this essay.

Btw: My uncle was on the Board of Trustees for 10 years and I included that in my application.

The average SAT score at American University is 1340, and your score is well below that (even below the 25th percentile score, which is 1250), so that will probably lower your chances of getting in. However, your GPA is quite high, much higher than their average (3.72), so that will compensate for your low SAT score. You’re also ranked pretty highly, which will increase your chances of getting in. You’ve got quite a lot of strong ECs, and it seems like you’ve written good essays. Id say that there is a high chance of you getting accepted there. Hopefully your GPA, ECs, school rank, and essays will compensate for your SAT score.

Good Luck! Lux Sit.

I got in with 3.3 GPA, 1240 SAT and very few extracurriculars. Only 3 AP classes as well. Don’t worry about the numbers, they don’t mean anything! Your individuality and intellect matters much more!

Wondering if you ended up getting in. My son has very similar stats ( you have more extra curriculars). Thanks
