Chance me for Architecture? ** Portfolio included :)

Hi, I'm a junior this year and Cornell is my first choice!

I organized my OWN month-long charity trip to Northern China to help mentally-challenged children in school. Plane tickets, housing, food, transport, etc, etc were all self-planned because I HATE HATE HATE those scamming charity trip organizers and want to AVOID paying thousands of dollars only to find out that half of it gets eaten up by some sketchy "non-profit" organization. GRR!!!! I don't know if this is passion/initiative, but it definitely shows that I won't just sit back and let injustice prevail haha.

THANKS SO MUCH! Sorry this was so long!!!

why isn't your summer college work in your portfolio? your academic credentials and extracurricular activites are pretty good. how well did you do in summer college?

I'm going in about 2 months, that's why! :)

my best advice would be to really impress your TA's this summer. do REALLY well because your TA's write evaluations of you (and you don't get to see them either) and those will heavily determine your chances. produce good work for your portfolio..best of luck!

From just this profilio it looks like you're more of an arts major than an architecture major...they have an arts major in the school too

the portfolio looks great
from my point of view, however, most of the pictures look very similar. you should try to create more diversity (use different media, try some different subjects other than people and buildings...etc)

Thanks sashimi, apple, & rocen for the advice.

Hopefully, next year, during AP Art 3D, I'll have some more abstract/different works to include in my portfolio.

And I hope a make a good impression over summer! 6 weeks is a LONG time hhaha... wow.

& Appleapple, do you know if I can do something with art while doing architecture? I'd like to think of architecture as applied art that surrounds you which interests me more. I would LIKE to continue doing stuff in art, but I hear that architecture eats up your time, soOOooo...??? I read on CC that someone's girlfriend is in the architecture program and takes art classes, but I'm not sure if she is doing some kind of double major or whatever.

chisquared-VERY HARD. don't do it unless you absolutely have to. studio life by itself is already so intense already

umm I have a friend who is just an art major, its part of the same school... so it will be very easy for you to take art classes. I know Cornell has amazing classes especially in stuff like sculpture. I've seen some of the stuff they've doen and it's just amazing...

but I agree with Sashimi....Architecture school is ALOT of work. Every saturaday since the beginning of the year, ive seen arch. students stand in Rand hall on sat. nights working. Most of them would stay there and live there if they had hte choice. So unless you're 150% committed....

Ahhh okay! I'll just take it as an elective, I guess.

Oh, the coolest thing arch. ppl do is dragon day.... where they build a dragon and burn it. The engineering project team builds a phenoix and the art kids build a bunny. (or at least they built one two years ago...look http://photos-665.ak.facebook.com/ip002/v15/68/49/416145/n416145_30451665_5186.jpg )

HAhhhah!! I knew about dragon day, but the bunny!? WHAT!? lol

ok, your pastel and color work- colored pencils- particularly the still lifes are beautiful. I think weakness is in your pencils drawings and figures- the faces dont turn out right all the time and i see some proportion issues. Overall i think its a great profolio to submit.

i am a little concerned by your projections- in the math II- if you got a 660 in math sat 1 you aren't getting beyond the low 700's at best, unless you really messed up your sat 1's which happens, if i were you i would retake my sats again. try for above a 2100 or at least a solid 2000's range.

good luck- Cornell is a good choice- you can get in with these stats- just pick up those sat 1 scores

meh, i've seen better portfolios from kids at my school

I am aplyying for Cornell graduate school. Here is 15 first pages online. I would appreciate any opinion. I am aplying from Panama, Republic of Panama.
