Chance me for baby ivies, criticism/borderline insults welcome

Currently a junior, I’d like to be chanced for
UChicago, Swarthmore, Vassar, Haverford, Bard, Wesleyan, Northeastern, Bates, Lafayette, Colgate

SAT : expecting a 1500/1600 superscored, 24/24 on the essay
SAT II’s : 740ish for math 2; 670 Literature; Planning to take chemistry too
GPA : 3.6 for 9th and 10th grade
3.85 gpa 11th grade
unranked and unweighted, though I don’t think I’d be top 10%. Maybe top 15% or top 20%, but our school is competitive
Course Difficulty : No IB’s or AP’s offered ; very little advanced classes offered (small public school)
Started in beginner’s Spanish class and moved up to advanced Spanish
Only spanish and math have advanced classes offered, both of which I have taken

Subjective :
Red Cross 10-12 (secretary, 11-12), volunteered with them on saturdays
Varsity Soccer 9-12 We were league champions in 10th grade (Soccer season is only in the spring)
College Preparation Program 9-12 Program that provides workshops and guides people through the college application process and also gives test prep (throughout the 80% of each year)
Church member and volunteer 9-12 (Leader of club in 11th and 12th grade) Club that manages flyers and announcements and handouts and activities for the church
Christian Summer Camp 9-12 1wk camp in the summer; various volunteer activities like helping out in homeless shelters, renovating abandoned homes, etc. for ~30hrs/summer
Scholarship for summer program on college campus where I took college classes and received credits for them
Volunteer at a physical therapy clinic 11-12 1hr/week
Free creative art workshop associated with HWS College 11-12 in the fall

Income : 30k/yr in a 4 person household, low income
Hooks :
First gen student
older sister is in college right now
upwards trend
National merit commended, my score might qualify me as a semifinalist (hopefully)
Ethnicity : Asian-American male in Washington

Recommendations : One will be great, other will be pretty good, though nothing special
Essays : I have a lot of people who can look over my essays!

I know this is a long post, and I would really appreciate any sort of feedback regardless of how harsh/blunt you may be. Thanks again!

Also, this might not be very relevent to my application, but I was also in the food club. I know it sounds like a joke (it kind of is) and I was wondering if it’s better to include it in my application or just leave it out.

Thanks!

UCHICAGO and Swarthmore will be reaches. The rest you have a decent chance for.

Expecting? But you don’t have them yet.
I can’t predict anything without your scores.

Baby Ivies…lol.

did you take the SAT?

@gklfajg @a20171 Yea, I have. I got a 1460 and I am pretty sure I can get a 1500…

@HRSMom I don’t know what you’re trying to say

@IndianSuperman Thanks! Do you think the others will be low reaches?

It’s just a funny sounding term, makes them sound “cute”.

Yeah I agree that chancing is hard without legit scores… 1460 is good though.
Are the SAT II scores you put what you expect to get, or did you already take them?

A very small public school is competitive?

Seriously consider applying to Questbridge for the coming year.
https://www.questbridge.org

It’s probably better to leave joke clubs off of your application; they will likely clutter things.
Also, your ecs, while impressive, seem to lack clear focus. Taking one of them further in some way could really strengthen your application.
Your gpa and rank is pretty weak for U Chicago. Not enough to rule it out completely, but a high reach nonetheless.
I can’t really say for Swarthmore without an SAT score…really a reach for most people though.
At the rest you might be hurt a bit by your gpa. As long as you have something else that stands out (essays or ecs) you should have a pretty solid chance.
In general, continue to work on your gpa, and maybe build try to your ecs into something special.
Also, you can compare your stats to previous admitted years.

Agree with @doschicos You are a good candidate for questbridge, which can help you get a good match school and full financial aid.

Assuming you get that 1500, you are a good candidate for all as a questbridge participant. Please search it on CC. Lots of info on it. It can help you a lot. Good luck!

I think you mean “little” ivies, the NESCAC schools, not baby ivies.

I second the Questbridge idea.

Ohhhhhh, is that what that referred to? (That went right over my head!!)

Can your family afford transportation to schools all the way across the country?

@ScoobyDooRaccoon Thanks! I still don’t completely understand why having a focus in my EC’s gives me an advantage, though

@doschicos @outtahere2017 Yes! I am planning on applying for the College Prep Scholars as well as the NCM. Do you think I have a good chance with both?

@corbeaux I’ve taken practice tests. Assuming I got those same scores, what do you think of my chances?

@ClarinetDad16 No, I’m hoping to get financial aid, scholarships, or go to a school near me.

What do you think about Cornell? Is that too ambitious in my situation?

I’m hearing that UChicago and Swarthmore are reaches (which I was expecting)
How about schools like Haverford, Bates, Bard, Wesleyan?
