Chance Me for Barnard College

Hi I’m a junior in high school and this is so far my top college (as well as nyu rutgers and penn state) I’m planning on a journalism major
and i go to a competitive NJ high school
GPA (weighted, school doesn’t give unweighted): 3.8-3.9, should be around a 4.0 by the end of this year, (if i’m lucky 4.2 by the end of my first senior year quarter)
(Junior year gpa so far: 4.3 ish? i think)
SAT I: planning to retake in March but
CR+W: 700
Math: 610
Essay: 8
SAT II: bio: 800, taking lit and us history in may
AP: this year i’m taking apush, ap psych, envi sci, and comp sci principles (obviously haven’t taken exams yet) senior year i’m taking ap lit, gov, human geo and comp sci a.
also over the summer i’m taking ap comparative gov, macro and world
OTHER COURSES: taken credit courses at rutgers
EC’s:
Taekwondo: third degree black belt, instructor, won gold at state level and made it to junior olympics, teach program for kids with special needs
Choir: national choir, sung at carnegie hall, super bowl, etc
Performing Arts: Indian dance, musicals and plays with school and other theaters, film acting through representation in nyc
Model Un, Bio Olympiad, School Newspaper, Drama club, Social Skills club mentor for kids with special needs at school
Awards: Scholastic Art and Writing Award, various Model Un awards, community service award merit scholarship awards to various college programs (penn state, rutgers, oxford, etc)

I think you have a real good chance for admission based on your GPA, ECs, and APs! Your accomplishments are similar to mine except you have a little more. Make sure to write SUPERB essays! Seriously, I think that’s what they value more. Get familiar with the essays ahead of time and make sure to interview! Try getting an interview with your area rep because they see your application first and it would help if you meet them and make an impression.

You have a very good chance, but last year the regular decision acceptance rate was 6-8%. Good luck!

@bouders Where are you getting the 6-8% figure? That’s much lower than I’ve seen anywhere.

D16 applied to Barnard last year, and that was the figure we were given in May, 2016 for regular decision. Early decision was around 20% or maybe a little higher.
