Chance Me for Barnard!

Demographics: white middle class female (obviously) from a rural area in the Midwest. Currently attend a boarding school

Intended majors: political science/international relations, Spanish, computer science?

SAT: 1540 superscored (770 EBRW, 770 M), highest score w/o superscore is a 1500

took the APUSH exam and got a 4, school doesn’t offer APs

W GPA: 4.18 (school doesn’t offer UW or rank)

Coursework: took all the honors classes or college level (school’s replacement of AP) courses I could, did well in them

Awards: National Merit semifinalist, got an award for the best junior in the school, Harvard book prize, U of Rochester Young Leaders Award, 7th place in a statewide writing competition, 3rd place in a schoolwide scholarly research paper contest

Extracurriculars: currently student body president, class president for the two years before that, prefect (like an RA) for junior and senior years, editor for the school paper for the past 3 years, head stage manager, studied abroad in the summer between sophomore and junior years (6 weeks), tour guide, analyst for the Student Investment Committee

I’m pleased with my Common App essay and I haven’t read them but I’m confident my LORs are good.

I’m applying RD but I already turned in my application because I had everything done.

Barnard is very holistic in its admissions so its hard to predict your chances-- but basically because of the very low admit rate in the RD round, I think that you have to be realistic and treat the school as a reach.

Thank you!

Like calmom said, their admission is very holistic and because their admission rate is getting lower and lower, it’s hard to “chance you” anymore these days.

Having said that, you have the numbers, rigor, and other great things on paper, so job well done!

Good luck to you.

@HiToWaMom Totally fair, thanks for taking the time to reply!
