An estimated percentage would be great! I don't really see how words like "reach" corresponds to the actual chances of someone actually getting into a school.

Thanks so much for reading!

FYI, Asian is not an ethnicity (it is a social race)

You look like like you’ve got a decent shot.
Don’t bother repeating any SAT subjects tests, you scores are fine

@anon5524485: Thanks! I guess I should say “Chinese” haha

Anyone else? : )

I’d be surprised if you were rejected! Just make sure your 2 essays are good.

I say ur chances are higher than average. But beware that there are lots of strong OOS who don’t get in.
I agree with the first reply that retaking tests probably wont make a difference.

Now where’s my oreo?

@sreezon101 + weebly: Thanks for your input! Yea, I’m aware that it might be pretty difficult for OOS to get in, but are the percentage OOS accepted higher recently due to the CA budget problems?

And btw, the Oreo is in your mind :stuck_out_tongue: haha

Anyone else? : )

OoS admission rates are up due to the funding issues, but depending on what happens in the gubernatorial election and proposition 25, it could get better or worse.

Also, if the economy continues to get better (yes it is getting better, just very slowly) that works against you.

Better than 50%. Concur with others - don’t retake tests.

You’re fine.

Your test scores are fine. However, since you’ll be applying to the College of Engineering (COE), I seriousy think that your GPA is low for Berkeley COE’s admits. So, if there’s something you need to focus more on so you can get into Berkeley, it’s your GPA. I suggest that you take more honors classes and APs as much as you can, or anything to pull your GPA up. Berkeley COE’s admit rate last year was 17%. Good luck!

Now, where’s my oreo?

@bluebayou, JBeak12345, RML: Thanks so much!

@RML: Yea, I know that my GPA is relatively low, but I have already taken close to the maximum number of APs and honors allowed for my school. Unfortunately its already senior year and there is little i can do to fix my GPA overall. However, do you know if UCs recalculate one’s GPA or do they take it based on the context of one’s school? My UC GPA is a lot higher than the quirky way my school calculates it.
Thanks again!

Anyone else? : )

AFAIK, UCs recalculate the applicant’s GPA to come up with a UC GPA. That must be good news for you then… If I’m correct.

Again, where’s my oreo? :D

A UC weighted GPA of 4.3 is and an SAT score of 2200+ is definitely good enough to get into Berkeley, no matter which school/major/department you’re applying to.

Why do I have a feeling that I won’t get an Oreo even if I answer your question

I politely disagree.

A 4.3 is just the average at Berkeley for all colleges. there is a significant difference in the level of stat requirements between COE/CofChem and L&S. the admit rate for COE is something like 17%. In contrast it’s over 24% for other colleges.

2009:
A. Number of undergraduate applicants to the engineering college: 9,262
B. Of those in (A), how many were offered admission? 1,669

2010:
A. Number of undergraduate applicants to the engineering college: 10,188
B. Of those in (A), how many were offered admission? 1,572

Where did you get the information that states a 4.3 is the average at Berkeley for all colleges?

[University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/camp_profiles_ucb.html)

It says the average is 4.15 and shows that the average SAT Score is about 2000

I’d also add that 12 AP Exams is definitely above the average Berkeley engineer (although you don’t tell us your scores)

I can’t say you will get in for sure, but I will be very surprised if you don’t.

The link I posted was for 2009. For 2010, here is the data
http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp</a></p>

Somehow the average admitted freshman’s GPA jumped 0.2 to 4.39 so I concede to RML. Still, I’d be very surprised if you didn’t get in. Your courseload is “rigorous” and your grades are good.

^ I have some exercise for you to do. Choose amongst the 3 given applicants on who do you think will get into Berkeley.

Are these hypothetical students or real people? I’m enjoying following this from afar. :-)
