Chance me for Berkeley, Stanford, Rice, UT, Georgia Tech, etc.

Hey guys, I have a 3.6 GPA weighted, 2000 sat score, 30 act score, 11 on the sat essay. I know my GPA is low, it dropped as my parents nearly separated twice and left me with mild depression. It's all good now :) Retaking the SAT, will probably get above a 2100.

I have almost 2 years job experience as a book keeper.
Hopefully will have 200+ community service by the end of this summer
I am Hispanic living in one of the poorest parts of the country (across the street from border wars.)
Its a long story, but I, (with the help of a teacher) founded a high school aviation club. One of the first in Texas, it has grown to almost 30 people in less than a semester, over 10 people have received free flying lessons and flown a plane. Recognized in the news papers, TV, school websites, and college professors from UNT have asked to speak to the club. As president and founder, I made all of this happen.
Other interesting things- 1st Place in the state of Texas for chess. This was 7th grade, not sure if it's relevant. I have a trophy that's almost 6 feet tall though :D
Taking an engineering internship at a local business next year.
Helped found the Ultimate Frisbee Organization at my school, one of the first members and supporters, there are no officers though
My job experience as a book keeper: My parents own three businesses. I have been working two years as their secretary/bookkeeper. (This isn't some slack off scam, I clocked in and out and was on payroll like any other employee) Roughly 20 hours a week.
My own ebay business includes buying, selling, and reselling various electronics, collectibles, and vintage products, making up to 500 a week on most successful times.
GPA is lacking, I know, but I'm taking 7 AP classes next year along with the internship I mentioned.
Schools I'm into:
Note I live in Texas

Tulane

UT

Rice

UCB

Georgia Tech

Stanford

UCLA

Columbia

Duke

CalTech

Georgetown

Yale

Yes I know that's a lot of schools, and most are tough! But I think with my rigorous schedule and my unique ECs I could have a chance

Which of these would you guess I would be accepted into, assuming my SAT is above 2100 by the time I apply and my grades are all A+ by the time I apply next year?

Bumpingggg

Also chance Cornell please

Tulane, UT, UCLA: Match
Georgia Tech: Med Match
UCB, Georgetown: High Match
Rice, Duke: High Match, Low Reach
Yale, Stanford: High Reach
CIT: I’ll take a **** on the California Bear and engage in "Dangerous Unarmed Combat"™ with John Fremont if you make it in (no offense).

Good job on the Aviation club as well as your other ECs (I’d think that the Chess trophy would be relevant, but it depends on whether you continued excellence in chess in high school). I wouldn’t say you’re set in this area, but you’ve done a good job so far so I don’t think there’s much else to say here other than continue to make strides.

Your SAT score is a huge concern. Your chances for getting into any top-tier university are SEVERELY hampered with a 2000 score…study hard for that 2100+, it might just make (or break) you! Same for the ACT, but only focus hard on the one you know you’re going to do well in.

Same for the GPA (is it weighted or unweighted and what’s your scale, because a number in itself doesn’t mean much…), but you’re taking fantastic steps to improve it with seven AP classes next year, so it seems that you’ve already taken the talking point right from my mouth!

The Hispanic might be a bit of a hook for you, but I’m not sure.

Good luck and hope I helped! Mind chancing back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1513083-chance-umich-princeton-cornell-uf-gtech-will-chance-back.html

Thanks! I’m not exactly sure how my GPA is calculated or what it is exactly. My school is stupid. I’m top 12% of 550 and I’ve taken the hardest classes available

Being from Texas you know that UT will auto-admit the top 7% and then the rest go into the review process. Your test scores are a little low for being in the applicant pool. If you are applying for business or engineering I think you may be a long shot.

Out of the colleges you listed I say your best shot is Tulane. The others are big reaches. But as everyone knows once you go into review you never know what can happen. You could be admitted to Stanford.

Thanks! Haha who knows anything can happen.

Anyone else have advice

Anyone? At all?

If you are not top 7% then UT becomes a reach as kldat1 said. Are you a rising senior? Rank? You need to add some matches and safeties to your list.

Yes I’m rising, already posted rank, I have safeties. These are my dream schools and I want to know my chance for them.

Bump it now

yes bump it up

Okay so here’s how I break it down:

If you’re applying for engineering (which I’m assuming you are because no one goes to CalTech to study history) all of these schools are reaches to high reaches, with maybe the exception of a match in Tulane. If you can assume your essays are above average, the other important parts of your app are lacking (especially GPA and SAT). Your EC’s are above average, and the aviation club is a good one. Unfortunately, chess doesn’t really matter in the 7th grade, because I had a friend who was rejected from all his reaches/high matches when he was one of the top in the nation in chess as a middle schooler. So all of this in consideration, here’s how you look for each college. By the way, my system is as follows: High Match = 35-40%, Low Reach = 25-30%, Reach = 15-20%, High Reach = 5-10%, HIGH Reach = 1%. So without further ado, here are your chances:

High Match(es): Tulane
Low Reach(es): UCLA, UT, Georgia Tech
Reach(es): Cornell, Rice, Georgetown
High Reach(es): UCB, Duke, Yale, Columbia
HIGH Reach(es): Stanford, CalTech

Now a couple points: Take a good look at Cornell. They have the highest acceptance rate of the Ivies, the best engineering program (according to USNews), and very good with engineering diversity, and diversity is a big point in their program. Here’s the link, see if you can visit the campus too: [Cornell Engineering: Diversity Programs](Diversity Programs in Engineering | Cornell Engineering). So I would really try for Cornell if I were you (if you like it of course) and if you apply ED, I would say you have an OK chance of getting in. Of course, I’m a bit biased toward them because I’m entering their freshman class. Also, I’m sorry that I’m being so brutally honest here, basically saying that you’re wasting money sending applications to some schools. However, I sincerely wish you prove me wrong and get into all the schools you applied for  Good luck!!

Thank you, that was very thorough and helpful! If I apply undeclared, or with a CS major would that change things?

I agree with puumba1

Pumba’s pretty spot on.

So they become reaches because of engineering, but if I went in undeclared it would be different? Or computer science, or psychology. (Other possible majors)

Anyone else?

Come on guys I’ll chance back
