I tutor math about once a week
I've held a job for 3 yrs (although it's at a family member's business)

Yeah; I have to agree with welles.
MIT and Caltech are super reachers, but I think you can get into one of them if you do:

A. Improve that SAT score [any improvement is good, I would aim for 2200+. You can do it! I believe in you :p]
B. Think of something unique involving your love for engineering. I’m not you so I can’t really suggest anything :p

btw, how bad do u think only 2 yrs of a language and 3 yrs of math would hurt me when it comes to Berkley?

I only have 2 yrs of a language because there was only one period of the class and it was the same as Calc BC

I only have 3 yrs of math because I’ve already taken Stats and Calc BC, so there aren’t really any math classes I can take (i couldn’t get into the community college ones)

@2 years of foreign language
Don’t worry! It won’t hurt at all if you make up for it in one of your passions. Well I may be a bit bias, because I only have 2 years as well :p

Unless of course you mean normal language, then yes it will hurt you

2 years of a foreign language is fine. My councilor [my school sends ~10 kids to the Ivies/top schools every year] said that if you have a very competitive schedule it should be fine.

Background: An Asian from the West Coast… hmmm… (I’m one too. lol)

GPA and Rank: Solid, but keep in mind there are tens of thousands of valedictorians across the world. Definitely maintain your GPA throughout senior year.

SATI and SATII: Considering your race and places that in which you wish to apply, your standardized testing score is slightly low. Retake the SATI and aim for 2250+.

If you have time, also retake the US History SATI test. Although you have an 800 in Math IIc, 11 percent of people who take it get the same score. (See below)

ECs: Good show of leadership, although it is limited to community involvement. Lack of awards or internships centered around science will put you at a disadvantage to those who are applying to either MIT or Caltech. If you are near to an institution, could you get an internship during the school year?
