Should I even bother applying for ED if say my combined math+cr score turns out to be something low like an 1100? (I had to attend a football game with the marching band the night before the SAT and had a contest the following day which I went straight to after taking the test). What about a 1200? Or should I just wait to retake the test in December and apply for RD or do you think there's a way I can incorporate reasons why I didn't score so high on the SAT that could help my chances? I'm taking the subject tests on Nov. 1 and expect to get around a 700+ in each of the three tests that I'm taking.

My unweighted GPA is pretty close to a 4.0 and both my essays will be rock solid.. I'm like in 9 extracurriculars and I hold leadership positions to a few of them. I've done internships with both a dermatologist and an entrepreneur.. and I guess my workload can be described as challenging (around 5 AP classes a year).

Community-wise, I volunteer at a local elementary school helping teachers with work for their students, tutored young children for the state standardized test, have worked with homeless people, and have done park clean ups on the side (Yeah, I know, none of my community service activities really lead towards a specific thing).

I'm sorry I can't go into more depth, but I'm working on my CALS essay at the moment and am trying to multitask.

Unless there is something on your essay or application that really stands out, I don’t think you will get very far with anything below a 1200 in CALS.

That territory is reserved for athletes, agriculture students, and people who really, really love plants and bugs.

Above 1200? It’s worth a shot. CALS is a bit quirky in how they admit students sometimes.

I think you should bolster your scores by applying RD. You should understand that “essays can heal the wounds, but can’t revive the dead.” - Former Columbia Admission Director

You really need to get your SAT above a 1200. I’m a CALS Bio and Society alumna…and I can tell you in that admission to the major is becoming more and more competitive each year.

Meh, 1330 CR+Math… However, though I thought I had set up recipients for the scores prior to today, it apparently didn’t happen, so does anyone know if rushed reports will still be accepted by Cornell?

I know plenty of people who were accepted to CALS with SAT scores in your range and all the way down to 1200. I say go for it…just make sure your essays rock!

Urgh, the more I think about Cornell the more questions that come up… What professions usually come out of a Biology and Society major? I read somewhere that putting that you wanted to go into medicine in your essay would hurt your chances of getting in CALS… is that true?

I put I wanted to go into medicine on my essay and I got it…the point of your essay would be to tie your interest in medicine to the CALS mission statement.

Bio and Society majors go into so many fields after graduation. From my year (the Class of '08): medical school, law school, grad school for genetic counseling, non-profit organizations and so many others.

Now that the deadline for ED has passed, would any alumni to CALS mind reading my essays/looking over my application and tell me what my chances are for getting accepted? (Dewdrop? :D)

My major is going to be biology and society…
