Chance me for Bowdoin & Wellesley please?

Hi! So the deadline is fast-approaching... and I'm very nervous.

My stats:

GPA: 3.83 UW
SAT: 2220
ACT: 33 composite

EC's: NHS, SNHS, ~60 hours of community service, but the big one is I'm president of Drama Club and I've been involved in theatre all four years

I've written my essay about intellectual engagement and focused it on my love of linguistics.

If anyone could tell me what my chances are and/or critique my Bowdoin essay, I'd be very happy and gladly send you my essay and read yours or whatever.

My two reachiest schools are, I believe, Bowdoin and Wellesley. (Also applying to Macalester, Reed, Smith, and two safeties.)
Thank you!!

bump please

Both Bowdoin and Wellsley are reaches. This is partially because they are extremely competitive and partially because of your ECs… You have to remember that Bowdoin is the only top LAC that is test optional, which means they attract a lot of top applicants (with exceptionally strong ECs) that have only okay test scores.

“Bowdoin and Wellesley. (Also applying to Macalester, Reed, Smith, and two safeties.)”

Other than the essay factor, I’d say 60% chance at Bowdoin and very likely at others.

“I’ve written my essay about intellectual engagement and focused it on my love of linguistics.” Reed and Mac have linguistics departments and majors. Smith may outsource linguistics to UMass. Wellesley has MIT nearby. What will you do at Bowdoin?

I’m undecided about my major, but foreign language in general is one of my passions. I don’t need to major/minor in linguistics but I probably will major/minor in one or more languages, and Bowdoin offers plenty of languages. Do you think I should write my essay about something else?

No. Your essay topic is fine.
