Chance me for Bowdoin?

I submitted my application RD today and just wanted to know what you guys thought. Please be serious, Bowdoin is one of my top two choices and these next 4 months of waiting are going to be really hard. My UW GPA is an estimate since my school doesn’t give unweighted, and is low because it is an incredibly difficult magnet school (ranked 4 in the country) and the GPA doesn’t accurately reflect students there. My teacher recommendations were incredible and personal essays were very good. Additionally, I submitted the extra essay describing my overnight visit to Bowdoin and how the students, location, and quality of teaching made me feel like it was definitely the right place for me. I also did an alumnus interview back in September and it seemed to go really well, if that should matter.

Based on the information you posted, you would seem to have a very good chance. Your standardized test scores are obviously the strongest part of your record and I would expect will give the admissions committee the impression of a student who is exceptionally strong in multiple disciplines – the kind of student that Bowdoin wants. Your extracurricular activities are interesting, but not spectacular and your GPA is fine, but again not spectacular for Bowdoin. Your essays and recommendations may be a key part of your application. Hope both of those are stellar. Good luck.

Thank you so much! And I’ve actually decided to switch my app to ED II. Can anyone else chance me?

I’d say that you have a great shot. Solid stats, well-rounded, some leadership positions. Not sure what the Env Resource Club does but they’ll dig it…Bowdoin’s Outing Club is a huge feather in their cap and they really appreciate students who will take good advantage of it. Good Luck!!

Good numbers! From what state are you applying? CT and MA are tough admits no matter the numbers. But I still say you’ve got a good shot!

I’m applying from Virginia. It certainly shouldn’t hurt and might help, right?

I think any applicant from a state outside of Maine, Mass or CT gets a teeny tick in their favor. Highest state for acceptance last year was NY.

@keepingitlight, where did you find the information showing acceptances for each state?

^^I’m not sure that a state-by-state summary is available. We went to some accepted students affair in the summer and it was mentioned by the host.

Virginia should be fine. Are there many from your school applying as well? That might be the most crucial issue, especially if you’re applying from TJ or a place like it.

Yeah I am applying from TJ, but no one else is applying ED. They don’t compare regular and ED, do they?

You are in. Seriously.

yeah, i think if you’re the only one applying from TJ you’re totally in. great numbers. you seem excited about the school. let us know! yay bowdoin!

Hi! Just wondering if someone could chance me.

Very strong interest in ballet. Have been dancing since I was 2, and started a program at my local elementary school to teach underprivileged children. I did a summer program with a professional ballet company.
Interview went well, and I also went back a few months later to meet with someone in the dance department and take a class.
National Honor Society, National Language honor society, a few school awards as well as leadership awards.
I participate in a few clubs without leadership positions.
Essays and recs (I assume) were good.
Only person applying from my school.

Could anyone else chance me? Thanks!
