Chance Me for Bowdoin

Finishing my junior year and really want to apply ED to Bowdoin

Stats:

ACT: 33
SAT: 2180

Attend nationally-recognized private school since transferred in freshmen year (I commute an hour each way every day)
AP this year: AP US History, AP English Lang
APs next year: AP English Lit, AP Calculus AB, AP Euro History, an AP Capstone multi-disciplinary seminar class
Other Classes: 3 years of Latin, Physics, Honors Chem, Three years of honor math before AP, two years of Graphic Design
I have taken the highest available difficulty in every subject except for taking Regular Physics instead of Honors this year. Didn’t have time for it, though I think this might look bad.

Extracurriculars: JV Tennis (10th), Varsity Basketball (next year. Could probably play at some of the weaker D3s)
, Class Treasurer (3 years), Democrat Club (2 years), started Graphic Design club junior year and was president of junior and senior year, Latin Club all years, Chess Club 3 years, Philosophy club (2 years), Scholars bowl (3 years)

Volunteered for two weeks at boy’s camp twice (summer after freshman and sophomore year) before getting job there every summer after. I’m not religious, but I regularly volunteer at a local church and usher every month.

Two silver medals on National Latin Exam (Latin I, Latin II) Cum Laude (Latin III)
NHS (10-12)
NLHS (11)
Latin I, Latin II, and Latin III class award each year.
A few other school awards.

I know my extracurriculars aren’t fantastic, but since I transferred to a school an hour away, the commute and added rigor consume almost all of my time.

Hoping being from Alabama is a bit of a hook.

It seems like you may take the most rigorous course load your school offers; that’s a big positive. What’s your GPA?

3.85 unweighted.

I think its a reach right now. I would suggest that you try to increase your test scores. There’s a lot of good info on CC that help w/self-studying. Another 100-150 points on you SAT may be very achievable and would significantly improve your chances.

As a person who was accepted to Bowdoin WITHOUT sending any SAT/ACT scores I’d say that you’re on the right track. I would recommend doing a lot of community service this summer that would add to your resume. Extracurriculars can honestly make a world of difference. Along with this, focus on your essay. FInd a topic that’ll make you stand out/make them remember you. I met with these college admission people while at Bowdoin and honestly, a great essay/extracurriculars/academics that is what they are looking for! It seems like you have the academics part down. Definitely work on filling up your extracurriculars.
