I feel really strong about my Bowdoin Essay and its my favorite one of all the application essays I’ve written. Please tell me what are my chances

I would say above average chance, good chance actually, but admissions for these schools are unpredictable. Did you visit and interview?

Are you applying from outside the Northeast?

I think you have a good shot

I’m applying from MA, but the thing is, I’m an Asian American, does it affect it that much?

Being Asian helps but applying from Mass doesn’t. You have a great shot anyway.

Where else are you applying?

I thought being Asian American hurts your application? For RD, I’m thinking Wesleyan, Boston College, Cornell, Hamilton to name a few

@Q7heng The median SAT score at Bowdoin is a 2180 so your score on the sat of a 2210 is above the median although your reading score is slightly weak. Your class rank seems very high so I would assume you have a high unweighted gpa which would boost your chances. You have good extracurriculars and since it’s rare for Asians to get involved in swimming and golf you definitely stand out. 100 hrs of volunteering doesn’t mean anything I assume the average is like +200 hours I’m not sure if this would lower your chances. Do you have any other leadership positions?

Also, it’s worth mentioning if you require aid as this may lower your chances. Bowdoin college is very selective even at ED their acceptance rate is 32.1%, I would give it a shot and say your chances are slightly above average. Being an Asian American applicant won’t hurt you too much as underrepresented minorities don’t take that many places, only around 15%-20%. I think Asians make up 10% of the class mainly because there aren’t many asian applicants to Bowdoin, you are not at any major disadvantage or even that much of a minor disadvantage. Hope this helps and good luck.

Your SAT II scores are low but you probably don’t need to send them to Bowdoin. I’d say you have the right kind of profile for Bowdoin in terms of strong academics and at least respectable athletics. Applying ED is a good idea, hopefully you have some safety schools on your list as well. Have you interviewed at Bowdoin and visited? My D was turned off by what the other students in the admissions briefing looked like and she didn’t even go in the campus tour. Bit preppy for her taste although being the number one LAC you would think the student body would be more diverse than the admissions briefing was
