I appreciate your modesty in saying that your essays will not be “unique!” or “best my teacher ever read!” You must be a good writer, so they should be good.

I’m confused about your standardized testing. You have these great SAT scores (OK, math could be higher), yet you are taking the ACT for the first time and not taking any subject tests? Yet you took the SAT again? Why? The SAT is meaningless without the subject tests. Looking at your profile, I doubt Brown would reject you solely because of that math SAT score, since you have so many other strengths.

Emphasize your “real” jobs – as a newspaper columnist, ski instructor, philanthropy. Colleges like that.

Fascinated that you were both student government president and newspaper editor. Isn’t that a conflict of interest?

Anyway – I don’t do chances, but it’s pretty obvious you are a strong applicant, so you’ll be in the running.

@fireandrain I am taking subject tests on November 7, but I haven’t had time to do them before then as I did the October SAT 1. Because of this, I’m taking the ACT in 2 weeks on October 24th in order to still be able to apply ED to Brown (they don’t take November SAT dates for ED.) I know it’s not ideal but I had had no idea that I wouldn’t be able to apply early with November subject tests so this was my last-minute save.

Thank you for the application advice though! I am writing one of my supplements - about my most important EC and why - on my philanthropy work, so hopefully that will be good.

The newspaper at my school has been struggling since the beginning and didn’t have tons of people begging to get it back off the ground, so even though I had been doing Student Gov beforehand, I had still been contributing articles and was able to take it over once I could commit all my time to it. It has been a unique opportunity to be able to be involved in both! Appreciate all the feedback
