I am worried about my GPA. Of course, there are kids in my school who have higher GPAs than me, but I am still in the top 10% (probably top 5-7% even though its not shown). I am planning on applying to Brown ED, NYU ED2, and UMich EA. I also want to apply to Duke, Cornell Dartmouth, CMU, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Berkeley, and USC. What are my chances at these schools?
Here are my stats and info:
GPA: 3.86/4.45
ACT: 36
SAT 2s: 800 MATH 2 800, US HISTORY, 800 CHEMISTRY

I entered this project in Intel Science Fair. I rented a room in Brown University and stayed in Providence for 1 month on my own. The professor will write me a letter of recommendation for my application to Brown University.

Things to know about me: Learning language has been hard for me. I only have one ear that I can listen from. I didn’t even have a right year when I was born and I had to go through multiple surgeries to build it. Still cannot hear at all with my right ear. I see myself as an entrepreneur and a community changer. I am an Asian Indian male in California. My school (in terms of competitiveness) sent students to Stanford, Chicago, Yale, Columbia, Brown, John Hopkins, etc.
You have a really good shot at most of the colleges you mentioned. But NYU, compared to some of your other choices, seems like a safety. I would apply to Brown and Cornell both ED and ED2 since you would have a much higher chance in the Ivies if you apply ED. As long as you’re able to write great essays, you’re good to go!
@schuylarsister Thank you so much for your response! I am just scared about my GPA, and I really do hope that my ECs can show how I will contribute to campus life.
@wally1688 and @TexasSecede - Haha! I am mostly interested in brown because of its open curriculum. I feel like I have a lot of curiosity and wonders. More importantly, I want to discover more about me as a person and I feel like the open curriculum can help me do that. Thanks for your responses, I appreciate it :))
@sk2001 No, please don’t feel bad about yourself!! Remember that there are so many different things in the world and we each have our own strengths. We will all get opportunities to shine in our talents and extracurriculars. I wish you the best in admissions! You will do great!
Why not HYPS? I’m pretty sure you’ll have very good chance of getting into HYPS… especially Stanford. I’m sure you will get into the schools you’ve listed. aim higher
dear sherpa, hope all is well, I was reading through your other posts and comments regarding class rank necessary to be competitive for the ivy as an unhooked applicant. I noticed you mentioned that if you are an unhooked applicant who is not in the top 1-2%, you probably won’t get in. Since I am in the top 5-7% of my class, would it be worth it to apply to brown ED? I understand that my class rank is not the best. I tried to show my academic competence through my subject tests and ACT but I don’t know how much of a weight that will play. Thank you for your time. I sincerely appreciate it.
@agrb22 - You’re correct; I maintain that, generally speaking, an unhooked applicant should be in the top 1-2% of class rank to have a decent shot at the most competitive schools.
But there are always exceptions, and you just might be one of them. Your test scores are perfect and, more importantly, your EC’s are over the top on anyone’s scale. Assuming your EC’s are real (and not handed to you by a parent) you will have excellent chances anywhere.
You’d be a candidate for acceptance at any of the schools you mentioned, and you have amazing ECs! If you’re serious about Duke, I would apply there ED - Duke likes kids to apply ED and takes a large chunk of their incoming class through it, so the chances of acceptance are much higher with an ED. GL (not that you need it)!
Man, you are the most qualified candidate I have ever heard of. You have amazing ECs and need to aim higher lol. Like everyone else has been saying, you probably don’t even need college! If I were you, I would be aiming to ED at places like Harvard, Penn Wharton, or Stanford! That’s where you can make all the connections to build on the current (amazing) ECs you have.
Looking a little deeper into this, it is quite shocking as to how you got the opportunity to do all of this, and it will seem a bit sketchy to AOs probably. What are some articles you’ve been published in, and what is the name of your book? These will serve as proof for AOs that you are the real deal. Do you have parents who helped you get these things started? Even if that is true, you probably have great chances.
@nvb123 thank you for your response! I just didn’t mention the name of my book and organizations bc i don’t want to reveal my identity, that is it :). If I can provide the media articles to the admission officers, should I be fine? I am planning on sending in the research paper with the Brown Professor, and the articles. I am hesitant on sending the book because I do not want to overdo it. My biggest option that I am considering is sending the domain of my personal website which has the accumulation of my book, all my projects, the medias I am featured in, testimonials, and more.
