Chance Me for Brown PLME + NU HPME + GWU BA/MD

I am a junior at a prestigious public high school for science and tech and am interested in three BA/MD programs in particular:

Brown PLME
NU HPME
GWU BA/MD

Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.4 W (Mostly A's, a few A-minuses)
Class Rank: Top 10% (I go to a magnet school where it's difficult to be top 1%)
SATI: 2280 (770 M, 730 CR, 780 W)
SATII: MathII (800), Bio (800), Chem (800)
APs: Sophomore Year - BC Calc (5), Bio (5), Junior Year: Chem, APUSH
Senior Year APs: Stat, Gov, English Lang, Spanish Lang
Most rigorous course-load available

ECs:
Captain, LD Debate (Medals at various local tournaments, qualified for Nats)
Senator, Medical Society
Treasurer, Biology Society
Vice President, Indian Cultural Club
2 Summers + Extended Research Internship at NIH
Science Fair (1st place at school fair)
Hospital Volunteer (150 hrs)
Applying to Siemens/Intel Next Year

What are my chances? What can I do to improve them?

Brown PLME: Reach
NWU HPME: Reach
GWU BA/MD: Not sure but high match as a provisional chance

Thanks Catria. What specifically about my resume is lacking?

There’s nothing wrong in your application for Brown or NWU, just that BA/MD programs are highly selective, and both Brown and NWU regular are extremely competitive.

Brown accepted 10% of all applicants, PLME included; NWU, on the other hand, accepted 15%, HPME included.

Ok, cool. What are my chances for the programs at BU, Penn State, and UMiami?

bump…

Bu: low match
PSU: safety
Umiami: low match- match

GWU: Match
BU: Match
PSU: Low match
U Miami: Low match

Hmm…so I can be somewhat reassured that I’ll get into ONE of these programs at the least, correct? Provided, of course, I have decent essays + interview

“2 Summers + Extended Research Internship at NIH”??

Did you have connections? If not, then I say really focus on this experience in your application!!! the NIH summer internship is superrrrrrrrrr competitive and these colleges with combined programs know that!! Wow cograts!! must have been an amazing experience!

Hey Yukihime, yeah it was definitely an incredible experience. I just hope that my academic factors (GPA, SAT, Courseload) are good enough for admission to one of these programs

Wouldn’t go that far. Remember, you’re essentially applying to medical school which is a huge crapshoot, first you have to worry about getting the interview and at that point the interview becomes a significant factor in admissions. BA/MD aren’t purely numbers games after a certain point.

Frankly, I would expand the amount of BA/MD schools you apply to. As someone who applied to some of these programs myself (only three however), if you are 100% sure you want to become a physician, you might as well increase your chances of getting accepted to a program.

Don’t worry about PSU BU and UMiami you are well above the average accepted student’s profile for each of the schools.

Thanks Excavalier - that definitely helps. I’m also applying to VCU and Drexel, so hopefully 8 programs total will provide me with a chance to get into one.

Good choices. Drexel is a nice one. You may or may not know this but Villanova also has a med program that is affiliated with the Drexel medical school. I also suggest TCNJ (to UMDNJ), UCincinnati (to Cincy med), Rutgers (to UMDNJ, if you don’t mind being in Newark for undergrad), and UPitt BS/MD (given Pitt med’s high prestige this one is probably the “best” of all of the ones I suggested, though technically medical school is still medical school in the end)

If you can declare two potential programs on your application without having to file two applications for the same school, by all means do so.
