Chance me for brown university RD

Hi! I really want to apply for Brown, but not sure I qualify. Here’s my info:

GPA: 4.47
Class Rank: not finalized yet but was in top 5% last year
ACT: 32 (english 35, reading 36, math 27, science 28)- might retake to improve math and science
AP Tests: AP Government (5), AP Psych (5), AP Latin (4), AP Chem (3) (science not my strongest haha)
IB Tests: IB Latin SL (6), IB Math SL (4)
Senior Year APs: AP Calc, AP Seminar
Senior Year IBs: IB English HL, IB Biology HL, IB History HL, IB Spanish 5 SL
Intended Major: International Relations/Global Studies
Profile: white, female
School: IB Program High School in Virginia Beach
ECs:
-cofounded chapter of Students Demand Action in my community, held protests, met legislators, went to national Gun Sense University, Events Lead in my chapter
-founder and president of Girls Learn International (women’s rights club), fundraised for communities without access to menstruation products, held a climate justice strike, on Eastern Regional Student Advisory Board
-Vice President of Young Dems (running for president senior year)
-Intern at State Senate Campaign Office
-Volunteer at camp for autistic children
-Danced competitively since I was three, but quit after junior year
-National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Secretary of National Science Honor Society
-Freshman mentor
-Joining Model UN this year (didn’t realize I had interest in working for UN until this year oops)
Essay: about how I learned that I could change the world even as a innately quiet person as I attended a Students Demand Action protest at the White House
Supplemental Essays: will probably explain how I can use open curriculum to explore activism through an intersectional and interdisciplinary lens, will talk about my dance community
Recs: My math teacher who saw me grow after I really struggled in the beginning of year (will hopefully explain why my math score on ACT isn’t so good haha), and maybe my AP Psych teacher because I loved that class

Should I bother applying? And will taking the SAT subject tests increase my chances? My SAT is lower than my ACT so I most likely won’t report it. Thanks!!

any opinions are helpful!!!

I have a somewhat similar profile to you as I have Latin classes/extracurriculars and I am also a white girl in VA (but I’m more journalism/science than politics/government). I’m applying to Brown ED because I love the school and if you want to apply then apply! You have a fighting chance with your profile and unless cost/time is a problem there is no reason to not shoot your shot!

As a senior, I am definitely not qualified to provide much info, but I’m in a similar place with both of you with similar class standing, ACT/SAT scores, and also am from Virginia! It’s really cool to meet fellow Virginians, and I wish you all the best of luck.

If it helps any, @collegegirl187, the nice thing about Brown is that once you reach a certain academic standing, you are qualified enough, and it more so comes down to letters of teacher recs, ECs, essays, etc. You have a lot of impressive ECs, and the fact that they tie into your intended major seems like it will help you a lot!

Best of luck! @MrBrightsides18 @collegegirl187

Have a nice day.

The 8 percent type of admissions rate indicates that 92 out of 100 students don’t receive an admission.

Subtract the athletes, super wealthy, celebrities and underrepresented racial groups. It’s a much lower rate for a student outside of those categories.

You are competing against many with an excellent profile like yours.

It’s always about expectations. You certainly could demonstrate something to them that stands out. However for most in your situation it should be tempered with realism and excellent plan b options.

Best of luck and keep up the great work !

update my GPA is now 4.52 and i’m number 6 in the class

You should apply if you like Brown and can demonstrate you fit in. I think Brown values class rank and rigor more than SAT/ACT scores.

I’ve seen stats similar to yours on accepted brown college results, I believe in you!
