I think BU would be a bit of a reach for you, but I would still say to go for it. They love to brag about their diversity so being 1st gen and URM will help you here more than it will other places. However, BU has been putting a LOT of emphasis on test scores lately. I would take the SAT 1 or 2 more times to try to increase your score, because you are about 200 points lower that the average accepted student for the class of 2023.
Its very good that you have a lot of higher level classes, but BU MUCH prefers AP to DE. They also have a sort of strange policy when it comes to accepting DE credit. They will only accept DE credit if the class was not used to fulfill a high school requirement (i.e. if you need 4 years of math to graduate and you are taking DE precalc as one of those 4 classes, BU won’t give you the credit). I took 4 DE classes in high school and none of them ended up counting so just a heads up
I think that if you pull up your SAT score and your GPA you have a shot at getting in, but admissions to BU is getting insanely competitive so just keep that in mind.
I don’t think applying regular decision would help as BU now has ED1 and ED2. I can see BU accepting you into CGS or guaranteed transfer if regular decision. BU is pushing their acceptance rate for ranking. Last year they shrunk their incoming class by 600 by moving CGS students to spring. In my time our incoming class at BU was 4000 and now 3,100.
I’d recommend ED1 to better gauge your chances not only admissions but also financial aid.
The average ACT score for accepted students this past year (when I was accepted) was between 32-35. I would try to aim for at least a 30. You are also planning to apply to one of the most competitive majors at BU, so you may want to consider applying to CAS undecided. Because biology is within CAS, it will be very easy to declare that major once you are accepted and undeclared has a much higher acceptance rate than biology.
