obviously i’m not an admissions counselor lol but i had v similar stats to u and i got accepted!! however i’d recommend applying ED if bu is ur first choice, since ur stats are on the lower end of the average (i also applied ED)

That’s great to hear! BU is one of my top schools and I will definitely consider applying ED.

Apply ED 1 and undecided plus have CGS as an option if you don’t mind going to London. BU is gaming the admission by shrinking the freshman class (3100 this year) to keep admit rate low.

Hi! I’m a rising sophomore at BU, also pre-med (my major is biology CMG). So your scores and GPA are a little on the low end, especially since I know admissions are trying to lower their acceptance rates to make BU seem more competitive (2017 was 29%, my year was 22%, the incoming freshman class this year was 18%), so I’d definitely apply ED if I were you to express interest. On the plus side, you have an awesome list of extracurriculars!! Focus on those, make sure your passion comes through. And (unless they changed it) one of the essays on the commonapp is why you want to go to BU, so make sure you have really good, specific answers. Look up clubs and activities, talk about what you’re excited about. Honestly knowing that ahead of time would probably help a lot if you get accepted too; campus is huge and there are so many things that you can do that it’s so easy to get lost. Personally, I wouldn’t apply as an engineering major if you’re going to do premed, engineering is hard enough as is and the school of engineering is harder to get into that CAS. Good luck, I think you have a pretty decent shot!

oh also, I saw in the comment above mine that you were recommended to do the CGS program, honestly I’d advise against it. Doing the London program starts you a semester late, and I know a lot of people feeling super stressed and behind with class and making friends. Plus, being in CGS means you don’t have the advisors you get just applying to CAS

@izzy67
The acceptance rate for 2017 was 25%, not 29.

@itsurfav
I am not clear on what you meant by rough year, but guess may be out of control family circumstances, health issues and similar. If so, don’t hesitate to convey that in your essays somewhere, most admissions officers will factor that into their perspective and consideration. Also if you still have time try to give another shot at SAT or try ACT, some students tend to do better in one of them than over the other.

@itsurfav
If you apply Regular Decision, make sure you maintain the same good trajectory of academics by keeping up high grades. You will be required to submit the end of first marking period/semester transcript for their final consideration.

Where are these stats from and what exactly do these percentages mean? (2017 was 29%, my year was 22%, the incoming freshman class this year was 18%), "

@dijbmac They are from the BU webite. An acceotance rate of 18% means that 18% of students who applied were accepted. The rest were denied admission.
