Chance me for BU ED?

I know I’m definitely not a shoo-in, but I’ve gotten varying feedback of where I stand. I think I’ll get deferred for Ed or maybe get into CGS but who knows.

I’m white, female, and live in an upper middle class/super white bread suburb 45 mins south of Boston. I go to a small public school, but it’s well-regarded for a suburban public school and sends a lot of students to some of the best colleges in the country. I’ll be paying full tuition, so idk if that helps or not (I’ve heard that bu sticks kids who can pay but don’t necessarily make the cut into CGS, which is why I think I might end up there)

Stats:
GPA: 4.05 W (my school doesn’t give unweighted but I recalculated it on my own using my final grades from the past three years and it put me at a 3.7ish UW. I’ve also taken the highest available courses save one or two and have had an upward trend all 4 years, Freshman: 3.9 sophomore:4.06 and Junior: 4.2. First term senior year I have a 4.35)

I’ll have taken 6 APs when I graduate, Lang (4) and world history (4) junior year and psych, lit, us gov, and French senior year

Rank: 23/206
SAT: 720M 740CR 690W (super scored)
SAT II: 720 literature (only submitting bc apparently this is a really high score for lit??
ACT: 32 (35E 31M 33R 27S 29W) (superscored)

ECs:
Learning Spanish, Italian and Polish outside of school for 4 years along with French in school

Taught myself guitar and ukelele

Diversity club member 9, 10, and 12 grade

Red Cross club member 11 and 12 grade

LitMag writer/administrater grades 10 and 11

Selected for a 2 week French exchange program in April

Won an undergrad award for French junior year

I haven’t had consistent enough volunteer work (other than red cross) or job experience for me to feel comfortable/honest putting it on there, but I think my reccommendations will mention what I have done (organized clothing drives, fundraising for habitat for humanity)

My EC’s are kind of weak due to a family member having a chronic illness/severe mental health issues which resulted in me having to take on more responsibilities at home sophomore year onward. I wrote about this in my additional info essay, which I’d give a 6/10 tbh bc I wasn’t super comfortable writing about it and I think it shows. It’s well written, but still not my best work.

However, my personal essay is really strong. I had 3 people read it, including someone who used to work in admissions, and they all loved it and found it really endearing. I wrote about my love of languages, which I think would look good to BU since it’s such a globally minded school. And I know my reccommendations will be great since I asked two English teachers who really know me and what I’m about. Although I am worried how it will look since I didn’t ask a French teacher, but the teacher I had freshman and sophomore year was a sub for the freshman and sophomore teache’s maturnaty leave and left my junior year (I wouldn’t have had her as a teacher though anyways.) I asked for recs may of my junior year and didn’t ask my current French teacher bc I didn’t feel that she knew me well enough, however I’m kicking myself this year bc we know each other better and I’m one of her favorite students, but she was swamped bc we had French students visiting and she didn’t have time to write a recommendation for me :frowning: I know bu has a 2 rec limit, but still it’s a bummer bc she’s one of my fav teachers now

I’ve also formally visited BU twice, once for an open house, then for a walking tour, and then again to visit a family French who goes there with my dad to help convince him to let me apply ED. All over the course of 2 weeks, which I mentioned in my why BU essay, which I was told was strong by the same people who read my regular essay.

Bc of my weak EC’s and less than competitive gpa I think I’ll be deferred and then hopefully wait listed or admitted to CGS. (Or maybe I’ve just been reading too many chance me threads on CC…)

BU’s average CR+M score is ~160 points lower than your own. This factor, in combination with their not especially restrictive acceptance rate (~35%) and your general profile, should clear a path for your acceptance.

By the numbers, you look like a good candidate.
