Hey guys… new member here. With college admission decisions slowly rolling in, I wanted to get an idea of my shot at admission to BU. Here’s what my resume looks like:

SAT: 2000 (1330 Math and Verbal)
Unweighted GPA: 3.7’ish

I’ve taken multiple ‘honors’ courses throughout my HS career, and have taken 4 APs (US History, Government, English Lit, Statistics).

I did get a ‘C’ in 8th grade geometry second-semester, and I also struggled (and earned 3 ‘Cs’) during my second-semester of my sophomore year, when my school at that time implemented a 4x4 schedule (A.K.A. the schedule from hell). Prior to my junior year I transferred to a new school and have yet to earn anything but an ‘A’ since that move. It should also be noted that when I moved to my new school, my workload increased, and I introduced APs into my schedule, something I had yet to do. I hope this obvious improvement in grades, along with an increase in the difficulty of my courses will reflect well on my work-ethic, as well as make my ‘Cs’ look less significant. It was explained in my counselor’s report that I had to deal with the 4x4 schedule during my sophomore year.

My extracurriculars go as follows:

JV Soccer during 9th grade.
Cross-Country during 11th grade.
Endurance Team (varsity cycling team) during 11th and 12th grade.
Varsity Soccer during 12th grade.
I acted as President Obama during our school’s mock-presidential debate on election day of the 2012 election.
Did service work during 11th grade, which consisted of building running/biking/equestrian trails on my school’s campus, and during 12th grade I’ve been assisting in a classroom at a local elementary school.

While I have no idea what my teachers wrote for my recommendation letters, I trust that they had nothing but good things to say about me. I also feel as if my common app essay was particularly strong, and that my supplement was well-written.

With all that said, how comfortable should I feel? I would love to hear opinions on my chances.

I know college decision time can be stressful, but right now, it’s a little futile to try to find out chances now. College decisions for BU will mostly likely come out tomorrow, so don’t stress yourself out even more by overthinking how you fare against others with your application. You can just wait a few hours before you can actually find out your real decision rather than just estimates from forum-goers.

Just relax and don’t think too much about decisions until they come out tomorrow. I wish you the best of luck though!

I agree. A good night sleep is more important than people’s guesses. Tomorrow all your questions will be answered.

Thank you for the advice. In an ideal world, I would be mentally wired in the way you described. I have already been accepted to a number of schools, so a bit of the pressure is off.

With that said, I’m hoping to get into a bit more prestigious school… not to say that the aforementioned schools are bad, but for my psyche, more than anything, I hope I get into BU.

All my questions will be answered tomorrow, but if the answer isn’t one I like, I see myself getting pretty down emotionally. Although decisions by colleges aren’t personal indictments, it’s difficult to take them in any other way.

We all feel the same way. After all, that’s why we’re browsing this forum, right? Haha
I’m really anticipating my decision as well. I’ve been accepted to other places as well, but BU is my absolute top choice. But I’m still feeling confident, and you should to!

Ah, I understand. It’s sort of like how you worked so hard in high school only for your efforts to be fruitless?

But don’t forget that it really isn’t as fruitless as you think. You said you’ve gotten into other schools, so don’t forget that you can have a great college experience still even if BU isn’t a part of your future. Either way, everything will work out.

I appreciate the moral support, :)

Based on the credentials I listed above, without getting too specific, do you believe I will be competitive, and have a reasonable chance of receiving admission?

Yes, you definitely have a realistic chance of getting in; you’re a pretty good match, so don’t sweat it.

Glad to hear… obviously anything can happen, but I’ll cross my fingers, brew a cup of tea, watch some of the NCAA tournament, and go to sleep when I’m ready. I think I have a pretty good chance of being admitted, but if things don’t go as I’d like there’s no reason to be upset.

As I said, I’ve been admitted to other schools, all of which are great places for me to live and learn. Ultimately, life will go on either way. I will receive a great education anywhere I go and I will also receive the great experience that comes along with it. Life goes on… I’ll be great regardless of the outcome.

Now that I’m done talking to myself, I wish you the best of luck for tomorrow. I really appreciate your words and I feel a good bit better now. I’ll be crossing my fingers for you as well.

I’m glad you feel better! And thank you very much as well, I’ll be wishing the best for you too. :)

If you don’t mind me asking… Did you get in!?

I’ve had BU on my radar for a long time!
