Chance me for business schools... will chance back :D!

Please read all the way through (ecs are amazing!) . I'm a junior, so no subject tests yet

Asian Female
California

GPA (our school does NOT differentiate between A-s and As. therefore, my gpa is probably lower since i live off A-s):

UW: 3.5
W: 3.8 (upwards trend; junior year: 4.2)

SCHOOL PRACTICES GRADE DEFLATION IN HONORS/AP CLASSES. The highest UW gpa for a person taking challenging classes is a 3.67-3.8. This is on the A- = 3.67 scale.

Rank: Top 20-30% (this is against people with 4.0s taking classes like math 3, foods, art)

Classes:
Freshman year: three honors
Sophomore year: two honors, one ap
Junior year: 2 Aps, 1 honors (AP Bio + AP Chem) <- light schedule because i simply did not see the point in taking apush and there were scheduling errors that could not be fixed. (budget cut -> counselor fired -> school's fault? )
Senior Year: 3-4 APs (exhausted my APs )

SAT:
2220 680 CR/750M/790 W

Predicting ACT score of ~34-35

ECs:
-own several businesses making thousands a year
-own several websites making thousands a year
-stock market made over $100000 (not sure whether i'm going to include this or not)

-70 hours of community service (still growing, i'm a junior)
-4 years varsity track
-nonprofit (attempting to found, still working on it)

Essay:

will put a lot of emphasis on my businesses + maybe stock market. not the best writer, so assume it's good but not amazing

Recs:

Counselor- I'm assuming it's going to be very cliche.
Teacher- Assume slightly above average

Schools:
-Upenn Wharton
-Columbia
-Cornell AEM
-NYU Stern
-WashU Olin (double legacy at washu)
-MIT Sloan

Did my rank/gpa kill my chances? I feel like it did and that I really screwed up...

First of all, WOW! Your ECs are very impressive, IMO, and show passion. I think your GPA is fine as long as you are taking rigorous courses and you go to a competitive school.
UPenn - high reach (because of Wharton)
Columbia - reach
Cornell - low reach
NYU Stern - high match
WashU Olin - match
MIT Sloan - reach

G’luck! Chance me back?

Your big issue at Penn is going to be rank, they care more about rank than any other college I’ve come across. Only 2% are not in their high school’s top 10%. That includes those competing against those never haven taken an honors class, all of their recruited athletes, legacies…you get the picture.

Of course it’s not much different at the other top schools on your list, but they take a few percent more.

Given rank, I would consider adding some good but slightly less competitive schools to your list. Good luck!

Just wondering why aren’t you applying to Haas School of Business?

Last time I checked, MIT Sloan did not offer a bachelor’s degree program.

I am  But I’m trying to see what my chances are for some reaches

Really? Oh darn, I was informed incorrectly then :/

Thanks guys for the chances  I guess I screwed myself over sophomore year… I was hoping an upwards trend would cover it up. The sad thing is, most of the students taking rigorous courses aren’t in the top 10%. Over 50% of the people in our school take math 3 (easier version of algebra 2) junior year, art, etc. with one AP class (ap psych?) and are ranked in the top 5% this way. Most of the people in the top 20-30% in the classes I’m taking have a 2200-2400 SAT too… so none of us are unintelligent compared to our peers :/

What other schools should I add to my list?

If you’re fine with religious schools, definitely look into Notre Dame.

I’d also suggest check out Babson, Emory, Virginia, and Boston College.

wow, if i could make a hundred thousand off the stock market, I wouldn’t even go to college. right, all of those schools will be reaches because of GPa and ORM. But ECs may very well make up for it. Also, what a lotof ppl don’t realize is that Ivys don’t always have best UNDERGRAD bussiness school. I believe Mendoza is ranked best, with McIntire in second. Either way, you are going to an amazign school.
