Chance me for Business!

I go to a very competitive high school in Illinois

Stats:
W. GPA: 3.87
ACT: 29
I know my GPA puts me in a tough position, which is why I am anxious. I messed up my second semester soph. year in HA2 and Honors Chem and first semester Junior year in Honors Precalc and Honors Bio - I got C's in all of these weighted classes. However, I dropped Honors Precalc to regular my second semester Junior year and I pulled of a 4.0 that semester. I hope they notice the improvement.

Senior Year Schedule:
- Business Independent Tech Study (I aligned my curriculum with UIUC'S BADM 320 class and shadowed a mentor who successfully started his own company; I wrote about this in one of my essays)
- Spanish 5
- AP Psychology
- AP Calculus AB
- Physics
- Senior Rhetoric

Extra - Curricular Activities/other
Tennis: Varsity singes player all four years, sectionals qualifier (2012, 2014) and DVC champions (2011, 2012, 2014)
President of ISA (2013, 2014)
Gymnastics (2011 - could not continue because of tennis)
Member of the Network (2013, 2014)
Local Rep at YJA for Midwest region (2013)
Tutor at Kumon (2014)
Tennis instructor (2012, 2014)
Volunteer at DCM (2011, 2013)
Youth group leader (2013)
Youth group Volunteer (2011-2014)

High Honor roll all four years
Above all, I believe that my involvement in dance is very unique. I am part of a dance troupe that is involved in the Bollywood industry, and we get paid to perform all over Chicago. One of my favorite experience was performing as a back up dancer for a very popular singer from India. This was at Sears centre arena this past summer, in front of 8,000+ people. I was also in a music video.
Both of my essays are solid.

Thanks for your time!

To be honest I think it is a stretch. As you pointed out, your GPA is going to hurt your chances. Also, your ACT score is not competitive. However, if you strongly feel that your GPA and ACT scores are not indicative of your abilities, you may be able to eventually get into the College of Business…IF you commit to that goal.

You will have to research and then plan accordingly. Transferring from LAS to BUS is possible, but not easy. Good luck.

Thanks for your insight
Any more thoughts are appreciated!

Bumpp

Please anyoneee?

Sorry you aren’t getting more responses. You are definitely not a slam dunk to be admitted. On the other hand, you might very well make the cut. In my opinion your stats put you in a gray area, where it will depend upon the rest of the applicant pool.

When my daughter was accepted into the CoB, they strongly emphasized the importance of showing rigor in one’s senior year schedule. Also, to a lesser degree they are interested if you, the applicant, have shown interest in UIUC. Have you made a college visit - at your school or on the UIUC campus?

Well, I don’t have anything else to add, except to wish you luck. It sounds like you really want to attend UIUC. Let us know when you hear back from them.

I think that even if you don’t get into UIUC business, you will certainly get into Division of General Studies (DGS) and with solid grades, you will be able to transfer in. I’ve had quite a few friends do this.
