Chance me for Cal Poly SLO and SDSU?

Hey everyone, any idea of my admission chances for these 2 schools? Applied ED to SLO under computer science and was rejected, and changed to business admin. I didn't realize how hard it is to get into their college of engineering. Also, I'm not sure which GPA to go by so I'll put up all of them. Nevertheless, here are the stats:

Acad GPA (W) - 3.63 & 3.57 UW
Total GPA (W) - 3.70 & 3.65 UW
10-12 GPA (W) - 3.5 & 3.4 UW
SAT: 1620 (590 Math + 510 Writing + 520 Critical Reading)
ACT: 25 Composite (22 English, 27 Math, 28 Reading, 24 Science)
1 Honors course (Honors Anatomy 11th grade) and 3 AP's this year (Macroeconomics, Statistics, English Literature)
16-20 hours/week work
16-20 hours/week extracurriculars with leadership

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Your GPA, SAT (M+CR) and ACT scores are all below the average for both Cal Poly SLO and SDSU. I would give a 30/70% chance for acceptance. Both schools are all about the numbers so EC’s count very little. For SLO, Avg GPA was 3.94, ACT was 29 and SAT was 1330 for 2013 incoming freshman. Avg GPA at SDSU was 3.75, SAT was 1152 and ACT was 25 (match for SDSU). With only 1 Honors and 3 AP’s your courses are not that rigorous compared to the high percentage of students applying. I hope you have some safeties. Good Luck and prove me wrong.

For Cal Poly engineering, 2013 freshman admission stats are:

Avg GPA: 4.08
Avg ACT: 31
Avg SAT: 1388 (out of 1600)

College of Business:

Avg GPA: 3.94
Avg ACT: 29
Avg SAT: 1303 (out of 1600)

Cal Poly counts 9th grade grades as part of the applicant’s GPA.

Admission was very competitive for SLO this year. They had 44k applicants just for freshman alone. Cal Poly’s requirements are very similar to UCD, UCSB, UCI, so it is much more stringent than all of the CSUs.

So, Cal Poly will be a reach for you for both engineering and business. I think SDSU should be less competitive compared to SLO.

SDSU: match
Cal Poly: low reach

It’s your lack of AP’s and your SAT that’s making SLO a bit of a reach, but you just might be able to get in, you never know. I can see SDSU happening, though :)

Cal Poly SLO: Reach
SDSU: Match

SLO is pretty unlikely. SDSU, I think you are on the bubble. The look only at your a-g (college prep) courses in 10-11. They multiply that GPA by 800 and add your M&R SAT to create an index. They stack applicants in CSU Index order and admit until the seats are full. As a result, the threshold varies year to year but has been around 3950-4000 for the last few years.

With a 3.5 CSU GPA and your SAT, your index would be 3900. A 3.6 takes you up to 3980.

SDSU could go either way. Hopefully you applied more broadly.

Good luck.
