Prospective Schools: *Safe at UNLV and UNR

San Francisco State
San Jose State
Sacramento State
Cal Poly, SLO
Cal Poly, Pomona
CSU Fullerton
UC Davis
UC Irvine
San Diego State

Major: Civil Engineering

Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

Bump!!!

i think you have a great chance at state schools. the UCs are weird, but you might have a shot at Davis and Irvine because they are not that competitive (not as much as higher UCs). Cal Poly schools are probably a close match. I’d say SDSU, SFSU, etc are close matches. If you can, try and up your SAT score or take the ACT because that will really help.

Thanks Jmust777! Since LA and Berkeley are a feeding frenzy in terms of competition, I’m perfectly fine going for the middle ground UCs like Davis and especially Irvine (perfect location). Just hope I make the cut and if I do, I get some good financial aid! I think I might have a better chance for Pomona as opposed to SLO but I’m definitely looking at both Polys. SDSU seems to be a perfect match to me in terms of GPA and averages but its admission rate is lower than the UCs I have =\ I’m taking the real SAT in March and I’m on a study grind right now but I’m still debating on if I should take an ACT and if its worth the time and effort.

Bump!!!

Bump!!!

San Francisco State - safety
San Jose State - safety
Sacramento State - safety
Cal Poly, SLO - low reach
Cal Poly, Pomona - match
CSU Fullerton - low match
UC Davis - low reach
UC Irvine - low reach
San Diego State - high match

You have a chance at all of them. Though I see no reason why you aren’t applying to more match schools such as UCR, UCSC, or UCM. Get 2000+ to turn the low reaches to matches and everything else to safety.

Oh wow BubblesForSale just the feedback I’ve been looking for! I feel very safe for SFSU, SJSU and Sac State but I’m really worried about SJSU’s Impaction which makes it a whole lot harder for civil engineering admission. Is SDSU really that difficult to get into or is it just because of the competition/number of applicants? I think the issue is the same with Fullerton. I honestly thought UCI and SDSU were the best Cali schools I can go for. UCLA and UCB are way too hard and Riverside and Santa Cruz don’t have civil engineering (plus UCs in general are expensive). UCSD is a little too out of range also. UCI and UCD seem to be my best chance. If you have any more advice on all I’ve just spheeled about it would be great and thanks again!

Keep it coming guys!

Bump!!!

GPA is slightly on the low side, but you may have a good shot at some of the mid-tier UCs, probably not Berkeley.

Thanks bayareaindian! I don’t have any intention of applying for those high-end UCs since Irvine is more suitable. I’m really unsure about my UC GPA since I can’t tell what counts for what and if my honors count for as extra weight even though I’m from out of state.

Bump!!!

San Francisco State: Low Match
San Jose State: Low Match
Sacramento State: Low Match
Cal Poly, SLO: High Match
Cal Poly, Pomona: High Match
CSU Fullerton: Low Match
UC Davis: Low REach
UC Irvine: Low Reach
San Diego State: High Match

Many of these colleges are less than four hours away from Las Vegas, so you won’t be too far from home. Good luck!

@letjustin Thanks so much! Yes precisely! If I sucessfully get into any of these, returning home for breaks will just be a drive or short flight away! SDSU seems to be where I’m leaning toward at the moment.

Bump!!!

You have a shot at several Californian schools. I’m not sure how hard it is to get into these schools from out-of-state, though. You say you are leaning towards SDSU; from what I know of SDSU’s admission standards, you seem to be a good candidate for admission.

Thanks alot BlueUkiyo! I do hope I have a good chance at SDSU since its mostly a numbers game. I wonder if I’m underestimated my chances…

Since you’re not a California resident, you won’t be eligible for California’s Blue and Gold program. You might be offered a Pell grant (approx $5000) if you’re very low income. Otherwise there’s not much chance of getting financial aid from California public schools.

Be sure you have a financial safety that you’re willing to attend on your list.

@vballmom Definetly! I have UNLV and the Nevadan Millenium Scholarship set up in the case Cali doesn’t aid me at all.

Bump!!!
