Chance me for Caltech, MIT, and all the Ivy Leagues!

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Obviously you don’t really need anybody to tell you that you are qualified for admission at all those schools. Just remember, there are lots of students who are as qualified as you and therefore it is entirely possible that you may not get into any of those schools. Therefore, do apply to some matches and maybe one good safety.

Thank You, but do you feel that if I would have done something more, it would have been a sure shot?
I am asking this for my sister, she has almost the same achievements as mine but just doesn’t have KVPY.

IMO/NSO national rank would have been pretty good.

Hmm… yaa… You are right

did you really get a perfect score?

Why would I lie? I need real chances  anyone who works for it can get it. :D

Can someone please tell me my reach for Caltech, UPenn, MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech and UC Berkeley?

Georgia Tech - Low Match
UC Berkeley - High Match
UPenn - Low Reach
CalTech - Reach
MIT - Reach
Stanford - Reach

(The last 3-4 are reaches no matter what your stats are)

I never got it. What does “Low Match” “High Match” “Low Reach” “Reach” mean? What’s difference in “Match” and “Reach”?

Can you please elaborate on my reaches and
matches… I really dont get the difference… Sorry.

It’s just a hierarchy of the probability you’ll get into a school.

Safety - You’ll get in for sure with enough Financial Aid
Match - you’re likely to get into the school. (High means a little less likely -closer to a reach - low means more likely or closer to a safety)
Reach - it’s not so likely you’ll get in (but still very much possible)

The general rule of thumb is that schools like HYPSM etc tend to reject people even with 2400s and 4.0 GPAs, but also admit people with 2150 SAT scores etc. They’re very unpredictable and therefore are reaches for everyone.

Okay, thank you soo much. Also, can you please tell me what i could have done to have got safety on most?

Oh my! If what Truust is saying is true, I would have to work real real real hard to get what I want.

There are some things that would make some of those schools matches - winning the international science olympiad, for instance, or something equally amazing. Cutting-edge research can also make a difference – I read about a girl who worked on research with a professor of a uni to develop printers of pancreas and stuff. Of course she got in everywhere. Long story short, these achievements take massive amounts of time and dedication and also luck.

Just apply to some safety schools. You are an American citizen, so you’d qualify for great aid at schools like… Skidmore and Gettysburg. Maybe Brandeis as a match? Wake Forest? Tufts? It is CRUCIAL to have matches and safeties.

Normally…
Match - your credential are within or just above the norm for admission
Reach - your credentials are slightly below the norm for admission
Safety - your credential are above the norm for admission

But there really is no difference between match and reach at your level of GPA and test scores. Any school that would be a match for you is going to be so competitive that acceptance can’t be assured for anyone. Therefore they are still reaches.

Whereas for most people, their applications would be a portfolio of reaches, matches and at least one safety, yours are going to be match-reaches, lower-tier matches/upper-tier safeties and at least one regular safety.

Similarly on the low end, there will be students for whom every school is a reach. Reach, match and safety are more useful terms for the broad middle.

Thank you soo much to everyone for devoting your time. :)

I am worried as I got to know from many places that Caltech does not prefer students with EC’s in Sports, music etc… It is considered a a negative. Is it true? And I did mention research in my resume, just haven’t disclosed the ‘subject’ yet but is quite good as per my teachers.
Would that research change anything? Like change it from reach to match? Am curious and I may be bombarding you with the same questions just in different forms but just wanted to know.
CalTech is my DREAM.

And am I considered as an international applicant?

A person like Kartik Sawhney (search up his resume on the net) could not get into CalTech. What is CalTech? A place for Dream or rather Ultimate People who don’t exist?
Kartik, he IS ultimate. His resume is unending. Why did he not get through?

I also need replies as to how a resume can be to have universties like MIT, CALTECH and STANFORD as safeties. This is for my sister who is presently in 10th.

I would also like to know my chances for University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
