Chance me for Carnegie mellon, Georgia tech, RPI and others?

Grade: Rising Senior
GPA: 3.65 UW/ 4.3W (All A's in math/science, my downfall is english/art. Also, will it affect me if their is a decline in grades end of sophomore, beginning of junior).

ACT: 33 (34W 34M 33R 31S) one sitting
AP's: US gov and POl (5),

Junior year courses: AP world history, AP environmental, then all honors courses (precalc, Physics, english, Spanish IV...)

Senior Year:

JV football 9th and 10th grade

Key club member 11th and 12th grade
I've played piano from 6th-10th grade if that counts

Volunteer: I've dedicated over 80hrs on trips to help disaster areas(like Joplin, MO and kentucky and such to remove debris etc). I also volunteered 35hrs at my church and helping with their elders home. This summer I am working/volunteering at summer baseball league games. In total I have about 180hrs.

I would like some feedback for my chances for Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon (CIT/MCS EDI), Georgia Tech, RPI, UMD, Purdue, Coopers Union, RIT, UIUC. (suggestion for better school to apply ED is appreciated).

BUMP 10char

also curious!

Don’t know enough about Coopers Union or UMD to help you there, lol.

CMU- Reach.
RPI- High match/low reach.
GA Tech- High match.
UIUC- Match.
RIT- Low match/safety.
Purdue- Safety.

If you’re in-state for GA Tech, you have better chances… The same probably goes for UIUC too. Best of luck!

I am actually in-state for UMD so I think I am ok there(but not honors college).
Should I bother retaking the SAT I in November for RD?

My aunt got into Carnegie Mellon with similar stats (but a higher GPA and SAT, only slightly higher though). This was quite a few years back but from her exprience I would say you have a good chance.

Don’t even send the SAT… Your ACT is way better. If you could get it to 35 though, that’d probably help you.

what are your thoughts abt me. be honest.
chances at cmu, rpi, gtech, cooper ???
so here are the basics abt me:

UW gpa: 3.7
W gpa: 4.0

sat M: 690
sat CR: 610
sat W: 660

sat2math1: 750
sat2ush: 750
sat2chem:640

aps: mostly 4s

ECs: resident of the enviornmental club. president of cultural unity club, secretary of NHS. varsity cross country

so im going to be retaking some of my standardized tests but this is what i have for now…

what are my chances??

thanks a bunch everyone and if someone has extra info about extra stuff i should definitely raise plz tell me
… thanks

^for above, work on EC’s…Start your own thread

Sarcasmrules:

Chances at CMU are quite low: test scores aren’t bad but arent impressive. Class rank is also very low.

Virtually no chance at cooper union, stats are not nearly close enough to be competitive.

Very Good shot at RPI.

Pretty good shot at Georgia tech and UIUC

Safety at purdue and umd.

UMD engineering has become quite difficult to get into. The average GPA of students accepted as freshmen to engineering was 4.2 for the class of 2016. The SAT score was pretty high also, but I can’t remember what it was. My son was accepted to UMD, GT, RPI, and Case (will be attending RPI), but UMD engineering had the lowest admission rate, at about 30%.

@cortana431 Is that my chance for ED1. How do you like RPI?
@1214mom isn’t there a special way to calculate that GPA factoring classes themselves.
Thank you, more responses welcome

definitely retake ACT or SAT to boost that (I think that your standardized testing is what’s holding you back right now)

also try to get some leadership positions in your school! your water polo team looks cool, but maybe try something in the area that you’re looking to major in (mechanical engineering) beyond FRC.

other than that, good luck!!
