Essays:
Common App: Supposedly out of this world, but I'm not that hot on it. It's quite personal though.
Penn Essay: I'm still working on it, but I really like it.

Recommendation Letters:
Teachers: Both teachers have a reputation for giving out the best references at the school. Both know me very well and have very high opinions of me.
Supplementary: High Ranking Executive at Rogers Wireless. Extraordinary, imo.
Guidance: Not done yet, but I expect this to be very, very good, considering that I'm her favourite student and I do half her job for her anyways.

Hooks: Nothing, unless having parents that went to Oxbridge and Ivies count for anything. That's probably more of an anti-hook than anything else.

You’re a strong contender.

u should being apply to Wharton, good chances for that

@actsat2400.

I thought about that, and I actually have my Wharton supplement written and polished and in finished submission, but I really have my heart set on reading PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics). And if it wasn’t going to be Oxford then I really wanted to read it here.

And I figured I could also do a dual degree.

You should definitely do Wharton. You seem geared to pursue a business path, and I think you will probably get in.

Ugh… It’s such a tough decision. I’m wavering on Wharton again after changing my mind to CAS last Thursday. And now I have both essays done and I honestly don’t know what to choose. On one hand, Wharton would be quite amazing to go to and I do want to go into business, but on the other hand I’ve wanted to read PPE since I was like 5. And I really love the course, but I applied to PPE at Oxford and I’m fairly (90+%) sure of getting in there due to some family reasons and etc. so maybe I’ll do Wharton but I honestly don’t know.

And I can’t even talk about it to my parents because everytime I do, my mother says go do PPE at Oxford and my dad says go ED to Cornell cus that’s where they went and I feel like Upenn’s just getting battered and shut down.

Did u end up doing Wharton or CAS?

I ended up EDing to CAS.

Oh wow, that’s a tough decision for you. But it’s great that you decided for what you wanted to study, not just the fame. I mean, even for CAS, U Penn is an awesome school, so there’s really no point talking about “fame” here. But there seemed to be many people out there who applied for Wharton over other U Penns not just because they wanted to do the business, but they wanted the “absolute fame”, if they say. Especially with your interest in business and with your scores and all, it would’ve been really hard to choose against Wharton. Nothing against people who go to Wharton, of course. I’m not even sure if I will be applying for U Penn for regular round… This is the only school I haven’t finished the supplement…

Last minute anxiety induced bump?

I think you have a very good chance. I’ve read a lot of your posts on this board, and I can tell that you’re really passionate about Penn, so the adcoms will probably be able to tell that too through your essays (wow, run-on sentence!!!). Based off of what you wrote, I would be surprised to see you not be a least wait-listed (pray that doesn’t happen, though). I don’t really see a weak spot in your application.

Hopefully things work out well for you on Monday. I would say the same for me, but I’ve already kinda figured in my head that I’m going to be rejected, haha. I’ve mentally prepared myself, but because I never know, I bought ice cream in preparation for Monday night. Anyways, enough about me - good luck!

Thanks iamoym. I wish you the best of luck on Monday as well. I’m sure everything will pan out in the end, Penn or not. It was a pleasure getting to know you on the boards and if we both get in we have to do a Penn meet up.

I just sincerely hope I don’t get a rejection. I’ve mentally prepared myself for a deferral, but I am not prepared at all for Rejection. I probably should spend the weekend doing that.

Luckily I got into my second choice school (UT Austin - McCombs). So if I don’t get into Penn, granted I’ll be upset for a couple days - even a week maybe, but I know things will turn out ok :).

You seem to be a really cool and nice guy. You’ll be fine regardless whether your Penn decision is positive or negative, but of course, that’s not what we want here, is it lol.

Honestly your application appears to be super strong, when the admissions officers look through it they’ll have a better full image of who you are. But with your awesome testing, and career focused extra curriculars, as well as having internship experience, I’d say to stay really hopeful at a bare minimum :). Good luck to you, decision time is quickly approaching!

Harrovian, you have a really strong application!
Best of luck; I’m pretty sure you’re receiving a fat letter soon (well, you’ll probably already have screamed your delight after viewing your decision online tomorrow)!

If you don’t mind me asking, it seems that you prefer Penn to Oxford for PPE- why is that?
Oh, and I have to ask- you have a screenplay making the Hollywood rounds already?

Oxford’s PPE course is incredibly structured and doesn’t give me the opportunity to shape my education the way Penn does.

And yeah-ish. It’s not going very well, but I have been trying to get studios, mainly small ones, interested. There is a little interest but I’m not optimistic.
