I have been in Girl Scouts since I was 7 and I have tons of community service hours from that. I also have my Silver Award, not my Gold though (sort of like eagle scout). I am co-captain of my school's debate team. In 10th grade I started a knitting club at my school, and I am the president of that as well. I have taken all honors core classes, and have had 4 AP courses out of the 6 my school offers.

Do you think I can get in? I didn't opt for summer session, but I did apply for the Priority Deadline. I know that engineering is competitive so that is what worries me.

Without summer session and with a 590 in math, Chem.E’s a reach but your ACT mitigates that. Have you taken all 3 sciences (Bio, Chem, Physics) plus one at the AP level? Do you have Calculus, or at least Honors Precalc? What’s your ACT math score?
Your ACT corresponds to a 1900 though, so if your math score is 28-30 you should have a chance - the Penn State bubble chart places you squarely among general “admits” for 4.2/1900, so the issue will be with your math score and your science/math background wrt Engineering.
Did you write an alternate major?

@MYOS16 I took Bio, Bio II, Physics, and Chem I and II. I am taking Calc right now, and am doing well in it. At my school you have to take Honors Calc to take AP Calc so I have AP next semester. I got a 28 on my Math section of the ACTs as well… is there anyway they would still let me be considered for summer session?

I think you could call Admissions and ask to change your application to include summer session.

^I agree, call admissions and say you’d like to start summer session.
If it weren’t for the costs, I’d say it’s actually better than starting in the Fall - you get to enjoy State College in the summer, when there aren’t 45,000 students but “only” about 12,000, there’s an art festival, the pool’s open, you’re taking 2 classes as cohort so you really get to know people, you get used to college-level rigor, and when the Fall comes, you already know the ropes and you don’t fumble around for 1 month or two getting used to college AND college-level classes (plus others look up to you because you know stuff they don’t :p). It’s good socially and academically.

I never did the LEAP program (which sounds great) but back in the day (looong time ago) I stayed up in State College for two summers – all my college summers except my first. The first summer I took classes, the second summer I worked. I LOVED it. State College in the summer is great. And I still go to the Arts Festival quite often.

Thank you! I switched over to summer session just in case, the lady was very friendly.
