chance me for clemson nursing!

Hey! I was wondering if you guys could chance me for Clemson’s nursing program. I’m from the northeast and Clemson is my dream school. If you could also let me know if merit is possible too that would be great!

STATS: (junior)

ACT: 28 (first time, didn’t get a chance to retake bc of the current circumstances but hope to retake and get a 30)

GPA: 4.2 weighted (as of freshman/sophomore year so could go up/down)

  • I also have all A’s I’m taking 3 APs this year (Psych, Lang, and APUSH). I took 1 ap last year (APWH) got a 3. Other courses are H except physics.
  • I also took the bio subject test but didn’t do well, so I’m not submitting (630)
  • Next year I plan on taking 3 APs (GOV, LIT, BIO), debating on taking AP Spanish (if someone can lmk if its worth it also haha)

EC: Debate captain, NHS, SNHS, Debate HS, girl up VP, science Olympiad, cross country/spring track, summer camp counselor.

  • I also have a research internship this summer and I’m planning on interning at a hospital next year and shadowing a nurse.

I’m also Asian idk if that really makes a difference, but I do know that there is a small population at this school (3%) and I’m unsure if that will hurt or help me in the process.

Thanks

Is your GPA unweighted a 4? I think you have pretty good numerical stats (GPA, ACT) for Clemson, but you might want to retake the ACT again (maybe June) to see if you can get a higher score and get into a higher percentile. You have a wide range of ECs, and that’s not bad (because I do too lol) but just make sure you emphasize the most important ones in your application. I think with the research internship + hospital, it really shows them that you have a passion for it, so focus mainly on that(especially since a lot of summer activities were canceled because of corona). Honestly, I think being Asian does make a difference, but I don’t think it will override any of your stats and ECs. Do you have any awards that could make you stand out from the applicant pool? Also, make sure to apply EA ( because I think Clemson doesn’t have ED) to show them that you are committed and really want to go there. Best of luck! (Take my words with a grain of salt; I’m not an expert in this, I’m just giving feedback)

Thank you! My unweighted is a 4 and my weighted is most likely higher now since i took more H/AP classes this year. i only took 2 last year I plan on retaking the ACT as soon as possible. I only have 1 award from a research competition sophomore year, but most of my competitions are senior year. Are you applying to Clemson as well?

That’s good! No, I’m trying to stay closer to the northeast area when applying (I live in NJ) Best of luck on your application!

Clemson nursing is a direct admit program, and one of Clemson’s most competitive majors. There are only 175 spots, and average GPA and test scores are likely in the top 25% of admitted student ranges…I’m not sure they make admissions data for nursing public, but you can reach out to admissions and ask.

I agree with the above recommendation to retake the ACT…for the class of 2022 (per Clemson’s counselor report, can’t find class of 2023 data) the mid 50% ACT of OOS enrolled students was 29-32.

I would classify Clemson nursing as a reach, make sure you have match schools (4-6) and at least one affordable safety on your list.

Good luck.
