I am an Indian girl planning on International Relations
Unweighted GPA: 3.61
Weighted GPA: 3.91
There's a significant amount of improvement from my freshman year. I got a 4.3 my Junior year
SS SAT: 2180 (780 CR, 770 WR, 610 Math)
I founded my own club, am VP for Mock Trial, officer in CSF, Editor in chief for Journalism, debate captain/ event starter, JV waterpolo captain, plus I volunteered in India for 3 weeks this summer.
One of my letters of rec is outstanding, the other is average, my additional will also be outstanding.
I know my grades aren't up to par but I'm hoping my essays, recs, and extras will help.

It sounds like you’re a well-rounded student and have good chances of getting in. Colleges really appreciate grade improvements. Good luck!

Focus your app on the personal growth and Leadership themes over your last 3-4 years. It sounds as though you have a strong unique story that would differentiate you and highlight your desire to Lead. Good luck

Just a reminder, all colleges unweight GPA’s when they review your application. If your 4.3 is UW, congrats. If it is weighted, the UW # might be a better indication.

Also, I think that the 610 might be your achilles heel. CMC’s math SAT range is its highest one, you are far below the 25th percentile, probably in the 10th or 15th. Not saying it will make or break the application, but IR does include econ.

Chance me: I’m a Caucasian male NJ resident attending a prestigious boarding school in PA. Applying for Political Science major

GPA: 3.35 UW (3.2 freshman year, 3.3 soph, 3.6 junior, 3.4 senior), 3.9 weighted (3.4 frosh, 3.6 soph, 4.4 junior, 4.2 senior to date), 4.03 UC GPA

SAT: 2070 (710 CR, 730 M, 630 W)
ACT: 31 (English: 35, Reading: 33, Math: 29, Science: 27)
SAT IIs: US History: 720; Math I: 690
APs: Human Geography (5); English Language & Composition (3, as a sophomore); US History (5); Statistics (taking this year)
IBs: Math Studies SL (7); Spanish B SL (5); taking Economics SL and English A, History of the Americas, and Biology HL exams this year

Extra Curriculars:
-Student Council Vice President (I was Secretary last year and a class representative my freshman and sophomore years)
-JSA President/Co-President for two years (I’m a 4 year member and was Secretary my sophomore year)
-Model UN (4 year member)
-Close to 300 hours of Community Service (200 hours volunteering at an inner-city youth program plus 88 hours volunteering at a school on the Navajo reservation for my school service project)
-Freshman orientation counselor (overnight for a week in August)
-Summer job at a poolside cafe for past 3 years
-JV Football manager in grades 10 & 11
-Cooking Club co-leader (and member in grade 10)

My essay is solid and my recommendations should be outstanding (from my counselor, APUSH teacher, and Math Studies/AP Stats teacher).

@GADTGS2014

GPA low for CMC, but since you’re from a highly ranked school, depending on grade deflation, it might viewed differently. However Poly Sci is a popular major so you’ll have competition. Great test scores and upward trend(ish). Your ECs and essays will probably be the most compelling part of your application. Good luck to us all!
