bump 10chars

I think you’re a solid match for NYU. I don’t know as much about the other colleges but for sure NYU. Can you chance back? Also may I ask how did you get your internship at citibank? Thats awesome!

thanks man, i really want NYU but it’s pretty costly lol

anybody else have an opinion on these schools? especially CMU, my dream school :D

i think you’re a probable match for nyu, cmu, and rochester (i dont know too much about the last two though). raise your SATs to at least 2200 for solid acceptance and a better shot at northwestern.

your ECs are pretty good but not amazing. just a question, what’s mouse squad and mouse corps?

make sure you demonstrate your leadership in your app, and write really good essays.

best of luck :)

thanks man, but it’s too late to take another SATs lol

mouse squad and mouse corps are programs where high school students are involved in resolving technical problems in their school and community.

and yeah, i’m going to try to write really good essays since my other aspects are weak lol, thanks again

I know exactly nothing about Northwestern (sorry), and I’d say you would be right on with NYU (but once again, I don’t know much about NYU).

I think your SAT is decent, could be better, but not anything that would put you out of the game. However, for CMU, I think your Chemistry Subject Test could be iffy - breaking 700 is great, but a 700 is still in the 60-something percentile which is low for CMU (find 2011 percentiles at http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/SAT-Subject_Tests_Percentile_Ranks_2011.pdf</a>) especially if you are applying to CIT (if you are a humanities student, I wouldn’t worry about it). As long as you can prove that you actually want to go to CMU in your supplement, you have a shot, but not safe by any means. Good luck with your dream school!

UR is a whole different deal because they place so much weight on demonstrated interest. My counselor has a long standing relationship with the admissions officers there and I personally have kept in contact with 2 consistently from my freshman year, and, from what they told me, a lot of decisions between qualified applicants are based on interest. They literally track every communication with the admissions office, even tracking how often you log into your MyRoc account (I was shocked too - but I heard this directly from my regional coordinator who was stressing how important interest is to UR). I think your scores are competitive for UR, and the fact you are taking IB is great (like I said, they love IB kids). Your ECs seem a little scattered and shallow just because of how many and diverse they are - try to stick to only a few on your application clustered around what you are most interested in or the top two areas you like (once again UR wants passion and interest, not just line items). But seriously - show them the love. Ask meaningful questions to your regional admissions officer (all of that on the website), log into your MyRoc and visit if you can. It will up your chances by way more than you could believe.

Just FYI, I had both CMU and UR on my list, but after visiting I took CMU off - nothing against the school, it is totally awesome but the vibe was WAY off for me. Which brings me to why it might be meaningful for you - if you really like CMU, UR might not be the best fit (and vice versa). I don’t know if you have had the chance to visit both, but just so you know it is -very- different despite some similar strong points.

Good luck - I hope this helps!

thanks a lot dude  i really want to get into MCS but i guess my chem score is pretty low haha. i’m really working on my supplement to show interest in the school so hopefully that’ll work out for me.

and wow, i didn’t realize UR took an applicant’s interest that seriously… i haven’t visited UR yet but a friend of mine who’s a junior there tells me it’s a great school. it also has, from what i’ve heard, a good math program so that’s another plus.

what are the major differences b/w the schools? personally i want to go to a “nerdy” school like cmu but i want to know how UR is like as well :P

bumpp, please i would like more feedback guys! :P

U of R-- is a great school and is getting tougher to gain admittance because of the open curriculum and beautiful campus. There are intelligent people there to keep it competitive but fun. It is not unusual for kids to pick it over other top schools (even Cornell). It is moving up the rankings yearly. It was under the radar but that is changing.
CMU-is a good choice also. Its just what vibe you like. Both schools are different but hard to get into and have a great reputation. Most of the people on CC will refer to both schools as a safety but that is perilous to do so. Both schools have high admit standards, so make sure your essays reflect who you are. Yes you can get into both! You are compettive with Stats. Good luck

I I think u hav good shots at all these schools

thanks guys! and yeah dreamweaver, i noticed a lot of people on CC have really high standards for colleges :P

i think you have a good shot at nyu and cmu and are pretty much a solid match for rochester. I dont really know enough about northwestern to take a guess…
hahaha i really want to know what mouse corps is :)
