@hummerrocket

Overall, your basic stats (SAT, GPA) scores look great. Hopefully those SAT Subject Tests turned out fine! Your EC’s are somewhat average but if you can talk about your involvement with more details in your essays, I think you can make them shine. Please keep in mind that legacy puts on emphasis on parents / relatives who went for undergraduate degrees. I don’t exactly know how it works for people who have legacy through graduate school. However, if you are able to talk about how your uncle influenced you to apply to CMU ED, then it may work. Good luck :smiley:

Lol how did u get an ab subscore of 4 when u got a 5 on bc? :))

@ThePolygot
:)) It’s hard to explain… I was just better at BC stuff than the AB.

@GoBears2023

Thanks for the feedback. As an update, I did pretty badly on the Subject Tests: (670 in Physics and 720 in Math 2). Should I send the Math 2 out or not?

@hummerrocket

I’m going to be brutally honest right now. Although your application is great, the fact you are applying SCS ED alongside some of the top STEM candidates in the nation makes the 720 on Math 2 and 670 of Physics hurt you. If you still want to go to CMU, I would recommend holding off till RD and improve both SAT subject scores to above 750, preferably 800 on Math 2. Given that CMU’s cs program is heavily math based, that sat math 2 scores has to be improved. I wish you the best of luck my friend.

HMU if you have any other questions.

@GoBears2023

Can’t I just not send my math 2 score?

@hummerrocket

You could, but the fact that you are applying to SCS will make your application sound really sketch without that Math 2 scores. I strongly recommend going for RD. It’s up to you.

@GoBears2023

Actually, last minute, I am going to retake just the Math Subject Test on November 3rd. CMU still accepts this score, so this is possibly a ray of hope!

gl then :smiley:

I’ll second the previous suggestion, 720 Math is tough!
I don’t have stats but when I was in the freshmen orientation with my son two yrs ago, I got the impression EVERYONE is 800/800 on math and physics…
