Chance me for CMU, UC Berkeley, Cornell, UCLA, UCSD?

Planning on majoring in computer science.

General Stats: White female from California, parents earn 250k+, ranked in top 5% of my class, bad freshman/sophomore year but I've had an upwards trend

-SAT I: 800 M, 800 CR, 720 W (Superscore 2340)

-SAT II: 730 Bio M, 800 Math 2, 800 Physics

-UW GPA: 3.83

-W GPA: 4.6 (I think, I'm not quite sure how you calculate GPA (is freshman year included? PE? etc))

-Jr. Year: AP Physics B, AP English Language and Composition, AP Statistics, H. Chemistry, H. US History, Community College Calculus (our school doesn't offer AP-but I took the AP test)

-Sr. Year: AP Gov., AP Chem, AP Physics C, AP Art History, AP English Lit, Linear Algebra (again, the community college class)

My ECs aren't too strong, but I don't know whether I can do much to improve them at this point.

Water Polo / Swim Team (JV) (2 years)

Best Buddies Club (hanging out with kids with disabilities during lunch and such) (2 years)

UNICEF Co-President (1 year)

Volunteered at local aquarium (will continue to do so this summer) ~15 hours so far LOL

I will be taking an online Computer Science course this summer (UCSD extension)

National Merit Commended (213 on PSAT)

Looking to become a math tutor this summer, we'll see how that goes...

That's basically it. It's kind of pathetic. Keep in mind, however, that my freshman and sophomore years were not the greatest, and that in my junior year I was finally able to get straight As and achieve a pretty strong SAT score. That has to count for something? Right?
lol I'm so desperate... Ultimately I'd want to go to CMU, but I'm not sure if that's realistic. If anyone has any pointers or tips that I could use, please let me know!

I’d definitely say that you have a chance at all of them, just looking at average SAT/GPA from those schools. The UCs care less about ECs than private schools do, and with that SAT score you have a good chance of getting into all of the UCs.

Averages for those schools would bode well for the OP; unfortunately, these schools are (generally) harder to get into when it comes to CS/engineering, CMU in particular. Your scores are definitely there, but for SCS, your GPA and class rank are average. Given the not-so-crazy ECs, your odds aren’t awesome, but it could happen. Same with Cornell. (On the bright side, being a girl going into CS never hurts!) I think you have very good odds at the UCs.

Anything I could do this summer that would significantly boost my chances of getting into CMU? I’m considering applying ED given that I manage to get enough scholarship money.

Aww yeah, I’m considering SCS ED too. Well, anything CS-related would certainly help. I dunno what in CS you’re particularly interested in, but things like contributing to an open source project, developing a useful app, etc. would be good ideas. I’m guessing it’s too late to look for internships, but that might be worth checking out, too. Basically, anything you can show for that demonstrates proficiency and genuine interest in CS.

Yeah I’m so mad at myself for not applying for an internship earlier. There was a perfect opportunity close by me too. -___- The deadline was in April, ■■■.

My mom is a software engineer so she’s going to see if she can find anything for me at her company, although it’s doubtful.

oh well~ thanks for the help  good luck.

bump Anyone else?

OH. I forgot to add that I am now doing two internships. One is comp sci related, and the other one is physics/engineering related.

I was wondering what my chances at Berkeley EECS would be? As of now I am pretty sure that it is my top choice.

Seriously, anyone else? bump.

You have good chances at all of them.
(Cornell, CMU and all UC schools)

Thanks! You really think so? I’m worried about my GPA. But I’ll be able to get letters of recommendation so hopefully they will help too?
