I am a senior and I just wanted to know how I stand.

GPA: 4.76 weighted/ maybe 3.6/7 unweighted
Rank: 90/609- top 15%
ACT:30 sci-31 read-31 math-29 eng-27

ECs:
BETA Club- member sophomore year, officer in junior year, president senior year
Choir- ever since 9th grade, really involved in this. It's my main extracurricular.
My friends and I preformed at numerous school events as a rock band.
I'm interested in engineering mostly and I just have CNS as a back-up
Thanks!

For getting into Cockrell, your GPA looks pretty good, your rank is going to be a strong strike against you, your ACT is at the low end of the average for people who get into the school, and you look like you have a few ECs to help you in. Cockrell is hard to get into, and apparently is getting harder by the year. I think they put more emphasis on the essays than most people expect from an engineering school, but it’s not as much about the skill of writing (since non of your degree really past that point will involve writing essays, with a few exceptions) but is about the creativity of the essays. I have friends who had a GPA close to yours, an ACT score of 33 and had a lot more ECs and job experience than you have listed and they didn’t get in, but then again I have friends who were less qualified than you if you go straight off statistics who got in. You never know with Cockrell.

Good luck though. I think you have a shot, but I just want to prepare you and let you know that if you get declined, it doesn’t mean you’re dumb or anything, it just means they’re really picky.

Thanks I really appreciate it! I’ve actually already been admitted to A&M, Tech, and UofH so I’ll have somewhere to go!
