Chance me for Cockrell Engineering. Any feedback is appreciated. Will chance back. Thanks

Hi I’m a rising senior from Texas. Now that it’s time to apply to colleges I’m a bit nervous and I’d appreciate any feed back yall have. Thanks again.

I’m planning to apply to EE/Computer Engineering (first choice) and Petroleum Engineering.

Class rank: non ranking high school
Will take 13 AP Classes by the time I graduate with an emphasis on STEM(lots of math and sciences)

Helped set up the technology systems (all the hardware and such) at a rural school in India and set up all the security systems too. (My aunts school)

College Essays:
Pretty good. Wrote about cyber security and about the recent OPM hack and was really passionate about it.
Good rec letters.

One last thing. I’m pretty happy with my SAT/ACT score but I took both when I was pretty sick. Should I retake them or just be done with it?

thanks for reading, I appreciate your honest feedback.

UT looks at your Math and Writing scores plus class rank to come up with an Academic Index (AI) score. The ACT formula is -1.661+(Wx0.045)+[(1-HSRx 100)x0.02]+(Mx0.06). If you take above the recommended number of classes in two of Math, Science and Foreign Language you add a 0.1 bonus. There is a similar formula for your SAT score. Sorry my ACT was better than my SAT so I don’t know the SAT formula. Since your high school does not rank UT will use a predicted one based on your GPA.
UT also calculates a Personal Achievement Index (PAI) based on your two essays (1 or 2 or each), ECs(1 pt)and special circumstances (1pt). UT uses a X:Y grid with the AI being the X axis and PAI the Y. The X scale from left to right is 4.1 to 2.8 and the PAI from 1 to 6. Top left on the scale is where you want to be.

You can probably make a guess on your ranking and then calculate your AI. Your ACT and SAT scores are pretty similar so the ACT AI score should be close to the SAT one. The PAI is subjective so who knows. I have looked on line for the AI range necessary to get into Cockrell but haven’t found anything. Hope you get your first choice because PE is my first and if you get yours one less person I am competing against. LOL. Good luck.

Haha I hope I get my first choice too. Thanks for your input I guess you have it all figured out. If I may, what was your ACT score?

Definitely don’t have it all figured out. My ACT was similar to yours. 33 composite, English 33, Science 32, Reading 31, Math 35 but only 30 on Writing. Class rank just inside top 4%. UW GPA 4.0

Howdy! Looking at the stats you provided, it seems, in my personal opinion, you should get into PE. I’m not entirely sure of EE/CE since I’m a PE freshman (Whoop Whoop class of 2019!) I know my stats aren’t top tier, but I’ll place it here anyways.

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.2 weighted
SAT: 1870 (740 Math, 610 Reading, 520 Writing)
SAT Sub Test: 730 Math Level 2, 670 Physics

Rank: 1 (Top 1%) out of 58
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Income: about $70,000
Dual Credit: 18 Hours (3- Fundamentals of Music, 3- Music Literature, 3-US History 1301, 3-US History 1302, 4-Beginning Spanish 1411, 4-Beginning Spanish 1412)

Haha, dot not feather, nice humor. Your stats look good. I got into ECE with a 2040 SAT, 16% rank, and some extracurriculars(nothing special). What got me on was essays, so while you’re a real strong candidate based on stats, I’d suggest doing all three essays and putting in a lot of work to seal the deal. Best of luck

I got into ChemE with similar stats. You’re definitely in EE if you write decent-to-good essays. I think you’re good for PE as well! Class of 2019 engineers reppin, whoop whoooooooop!

(Of course it’s the engineers on CC after we’re already in college. We’re the real nerds here, everyone else go home RIP IN PIECES)
