several music competitions mostly 1st and 2nd prize
Notes:
im gonna center my application around my creativity (through cancer research, music, and writing)
I am also applying to UCs, state schools, and ivies. Let me know if you know a specific school that would be a good fit for me to apply EA or ED to. Also, if you apply Stanford REA, can you apply to other EA schools as well like MIT and Cal tech?
I think that you definitely have a good shot at Stanford. You’re grades seem a little bit low but I think it is because of the competitiveness of your hs.
I just thought your profile really resembles mine, especially regarding HOSA. I think you have pretty good ECs, and I like how you have listed several state/regional accolades. I see that you have somewhat of a spike (ISEF finalist, HOSA top 10)
Can you give me a little bit more clarity on these two aspects of the profile your presented here:
You placed top 10 international in HOSA. Can you provide more specific info regarding this.
And your service award for completing 250+ medical service hours. Is this the Barbara James Service Award?
Just needed a little bit more context to be able to evaluate your awards section
@STEMGeek16 Hi fellow HOSA-er. I placed top 10 in medical innovation, and also received 1st at states. Yes, It was the barbara james service award. I think since my event is medical innovation and I was also a 2019 ISEF finalist, I have a spike in experimentation/creativity/biology. I’m also considering applying to MIT early, but I want to apply early to the one I have a better shot at. My school had the same number of kids get into stanford and MIT this year. Let me know what you think!
Thx for the info. I definitely think HOSA top 10 is a significant accomplishment, but not so much regarding ISEF finalist (although it is still worth including on your apps since you were the only one in your grade) and unfortunately, ISEF isn’t happening this year. I think you have a good shot at Ivies due to your HOSA accolades. If I were you, I would focus on HOSA since it plays a huge role in my application and several awards have been earned in this field, and use that as my spike in the ECs section and tie it in with the rest of my application
Also, if you feel confident, go on and apply early to MIT. I cannot really say from your viewpoint since these are all high-caliber schools, but I would apply to an Ivy League early just because the acceptance rate could be slightly higher for the mid to lower-tier schools. But again, you never know…you could get into MIT
