<p>You stand a great chance! But the ivies are a crap shoot for everyone so I can’t say for sure. As you said, the only setback is your GPA but that is still a solid GPA. SATs and ECs look great!</p>

<p>While the UChicago and Columbia are sorta similar in terms of the actual school, the acceptance rates for Columbia are lower. Not only that, being an Ivy-league school, Columbia can be very random. </p>

<p>I don’t know much about Fu, but your GPA seems subpar. Your major EC seems to be your research, which I can’t really judge. However, I do know that Columbia’s app has 4 mini-essays and 4 interest questions. This gives you a great chance to really distinguish yourself and make yourself into more than just stats. I think a lot hinges on how well you wrote your essays, and if you are what they are looking for. For example, you being Asian and applying to the Engineering school will hurt you (I know your pain). </p>

<p>You have a shot though, without a doubt. I think the best thing to do now is just forget about it till later. This is going to sound hypocritical, but I’m horrible at following my own advice. Chance me back :)?</p>

<p>Ivies are quite random when it comes to acceptance, but your ACT, like others have said, make you stand out. Also, your GPA is great for the rigor of your course-load. My guess is you’ll get in to at least 1 ivy. </p>

<p>very very nice. based on the info I think I even know who you are (3 of my friends qualified for Intel ISEF they told me about someone who matches your description)
ECs are definitely good, I think the Sylvan thing can also count as work experience since it’s a corporation.
Standardized scores are very good as well, though the writing could be a bit higher (though it’s by no means bad, they’re great scores).
You’ve definitely got a really good shot, but I’ve seen people get turned down from ivies for no good reason before so I won’t give definite statements.
If you have any artistic ECs, even just taking art or music in school or doing a play or something you should include that. I know Columbia loves that stuff, my older brother got accepted with lower scores in everything, but he had qualified all-state, all-eastern, all-national, and all-world in music. So if you’ve got that it can’t hurt.
But yeah, you’re probably getting in no problem.</p>
