ACT: 31, will be 33+ after this year
SAT II: American History - 740
I am going to take the Literature one in April, I expect to get a very high score

Opting not to take the SAT's.

So that's it, ask for any other information I forgot. I am 90% sure I will apply ED here. I'm applying for the creative writing program so I also hope to submit a really impressive essay and lots of writing samples of my creative writing, so there's also that to take into consideration.

I am also applying to Columbia's summer writing program this summer, I really hope to be accepted, and if I am, would that boost my chances?

Lol, I’m still a freshie in my HS, but I’ve seen many people of your caliber get accepted, while some got deferred or rejected. Primarily, looking at your credentials, your GPA, is pretty common or average for those applying. A 31 ACT is about a 1340-1380 SAT (only CR and Math), so if you boosted that beyond 32, you would make your chances greater, although it’s never defninite. You have some pretty great EC’s, some of which would be looked at as perpetually average, while some are pretty darn good, and definitely oppose application padding (which admissions officers hate, so good job). You can’t nessecarily expect high scores but you can aim for the perfect score, thus allowing room for less disappointment based on the amount of time you studied. You do actually sound like the very liberal-arts school type; if you got your mind already set on Columbia, nobody can change that, but if not, you should look at Wellesley, Amherst, Brown, Dartmouth. All stats aside, girls have a better chance than boys from what I’ve seen, but since the ACT is based on the HS curriculum and not analytical thinking and perception skills, you would have a better chance taking the SAT’s and getting somewhere around 2050/2100 (1360-1400), and that would be a great score (again, not being sexist here, but based on what I’ve seen, when girls score around 1360, it is looked at as in the low 1400’s.) You would have a much better chance applying ED to Barnard (which is an all-girls branch of Columbia, but isn’t a named IVY). You do have a pretty good chance, although at some places you would have better. I know ED is fun and all, so if I were you I would take the risk (only if I was a girl, but if I was a guy with that mark I would apply to somewhere else). But even if you do apply for Columbia, don’t sit and cross your fingers waiting to get in, as you still may not have that much needed factor of luck, and you should therefore expect possible disappointment. You should focus, once you apply, on the possibilty of getting rejected, and looking into RD schools that match you (and aren’t just rankings or fame gathered by fickle selectivity) and deals on those.

“you would have a better chance taking the SAT’s and getting somewhere around 2050/2100 (1360-1400), and that would be a great score (again, not being sexist here, but based on what I’ve seen, when girls score around 1360, it is looked at as in the low 1400’s”
You do kinda sound like an immature sexist freshman…oh wait maybe that’s because you are. And w t f is this statement: I know ED is fun and all, so if I were you I would take the risk (only if I was a girl, but if I was a guy with that mark I would apply to somewhere else).

No one here on this board is an admissions officer, and therefore we cannot give an accurate estimate of your chances. If you are what the adcom is looking for, you’ll get in. If you’re not, then too bad.

I know no one here is an admissions officer and that I won’t find what I’m looking for. I’m just a restless junior; I’m tired of waiting and I want something substantial to hold on to. Thank you, though, for responding, both of you.

lol your ECs are a little bit all over the place, and it would definitely help if you showed passion or one or two of them (like in your essay, for example). other than that, you do have a chance.

^ Thank you! I’m not planning on using all of them. I do as much as I can so when the time comes for applications, I have too many, not too little. I’m not going to include the ones I don’t think represent me when the time comes, I just wanted to put it all out there.

But sincerely, thank you.

you have a chance, but it is still a reach

chance me back?

Yo w t f does this mean – “I know ED is fun and all, so if I were you I would take the risk (only if I was a girl, but if I was a guy with that mark I would apply to somewhere else)”

Girl vs. Guy??? If you were a guy you wouldn’t apply ED??? “ED is fun and all”???

“You should focus, once you apply, on the possibilty of getting rejected”–Yeah you should definitely focus on being rejected…that should be the only thing on you mind(w t f ??)

Jacobtess you are the dumbest person on this forum.

Thank you!
