Columbia and Princeton will be reaches because of your UW GPA. Brown’s acceptance rate is similar to that of Princeton but I think its applicant pool is not as self-selecting as Princeton’s so I say Brown is a low-reach/high-match. You have a decent/great chance at the other schools. The rest of your application looks fantastic.

Yeah Princeton/Brown/Columbia are my “shot-in-the-dark-why-not” schools, but I’m surprised about Brown’s applicant pool information. Interesting.

Thanks for your input, I’m chancing you now!

Browns pool is on par with Princeton’s.

SAT score will probably make all ivies, except cornell, a really high reach for you.

WashU - match
Brown - low reach
Cornell - low reach
Columbia - mid /high Reach
Princeton - High Reach
U of Maryland - Safety
U of Virginia - Safety

you have good stats but I would say all the ivies are reaches so…

Thanks for the reply. (Yeah that’s how I feel about all Ivies haha.)

U of Maryland and U of Virginia - safeties
Princeton, Brown, Columbia, Cornell - reaches (ivies are always reaches)
WashU - match

You have great EC’s and decent scores so you have an excellent chance at all schools.

you have much better ECs than i do, i think u have a decent chance at getting in :)

btw, don’t put “perfect attendence” on there :)

WashU - match
Brown - low reach
Cornell - low/mid reach
Columbia - Reach
Princeton - High Reach
U of Maryland - Safety
U of Virginia - Safety

I agree with everyone else, you have good EC’s and good scores, which should give you a decent chance with all the universities. But who ever knows anything about Ivies :/

Good luck and chance back

What are you guys thinking? I don’t think you’re looking at real stats. WashU is not a match RD with these stats. How can Brown be a low reach and Cornell be a mid reach? I know you mean to help but this thread is crazy! A 3.7 and 2110 makes any ivy a huge reach!

^Please, know your facts. 2110 is above average for Cornell. His ECs and awards far overshadows his GPA. And the fact that he’s ranked 2 in his class shows that his school has grade deflation, not to mention his crazy rigorous schedule. I would say Cornell is more of a match than a reach for him. Princeton and Columbia are the only true reaches for him.

Sorry, ryanxing, you’re naive about top college admissions. Cornell, as part of the NYS school system, takes much lower stats students into their land grant schools. An out of state student applying to CAS or engineering needs way higher stats than Cornell’s published average for any real shot.

This candidate has a good rank but below par scores for any ivy. A close look at ivy stats will show you while not impossible, they are all distinct reaches.

I still highly disagree. When I visited Cornell,

Me: “Is there any geographical disadvantage?”
Admissions officer that reads CA apps: “Not really.”

I do understand that the acceptance rate for NY applicants is higher than it should be, but according to the admission officer, there is no significant advantage even for applicants from California. And yes, I know that OP’s CR score is lower than the average. Taking into account the rest of his application, I find absurd to reject him just because of a sub par CR score. Again, his ECs and awards are outstanding.

EC’s are stereotypical and stats are slightly below par for top universities.

Here’s something you can count on, adcom deliver PC answers, the schools stats deliver truth. The job of adcom is to get as many students as possible to apply, so they can reject more and go up in the rankings. Very unfortunate, but just a job like many others.

But OK, I’m a bit slow but I got it after reading your thread. He says you’ll get in so you owe him? This site is weird and I’m hoping all of you have applications in at target schools.

Ivy schools are always a toss up; I’m expecting Cornell to be a low reach while Princeton, Brown, and Columbia to be high reaches. No one has said anything about JHU yet, and I’m applying to their BME program, so I believe that will be a reach as well.

Thanks for the replies!

WashU St. Louis is a reach, especially for BME.

All say yes to everything except Princeton and columbia
