<p>Class Rank: Don't know, would safely guess top 10%. </p>

<p>Freshman/Sophomore grades: All A's except an A- in AP Spanish first semester.</p>

<p>AP's: Calculus BC, Stats, Comp Sci A, Spanish Lang... all 5's except a 4 on Spanish.</p>

<p>Taken Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus already at local institutions.</p>

<p>Junior schedule: AP English Lang, AP Chemistry, AP World History, AP Biology, Orchestra, Independent Study in Math (1st semester, real analysis/combinatorics/number theory), Abstract Algebra (2nd semester, off campus)... got all A's first semester.</p>

<p>Senior schedule: AP English Lit, APUSH, AP Physics B (school is dumb and doesn't offer C), stuff off campus for math/comp sci (EPGY, local institutions... thinking about Differential Equations, Real/Complex Analysis, Topology, Algorithms)</p>

<p>SAT: Took 2 weeks ago...will probably retake if below 2200.</p>

<p>PSAT: CR 74/Math 80/Writing 76, 230 composite... should be high enough for NMS.</p>

Applied to a few summer math/research programs for this summer.</p>

<p>My family has been very dysfunctional/fought a lot/on the verge of breaking up within the last 3 years, making it very hard to work on stuff/be concentrated at times. That being said, we make 100K+ each year.</p>

<p>Wow, you have really good stats. I totally think you can get into UC Berkeley and UCLA and CalTech. The Ivy League schools are really hard to get into and I’ve heard of people with 4.3 GPAs and #1 in their schools but still didn’t get in. You will be placed in the school that you’re meant to be in. I think it’ll be impressive that you’ve had a hard couple years but still have managed to keep high grades, etc. Colleges also love to see that you have doing ECs that show your interest in your major. </p>

<p>Hey there math nerd!! I’m interested in MIT too!! Anyway your GPA is pretty much perfect (that damn A- :wink: ) and your standardized test scores are awesome! Your ECs are I think your biggest weakness though I definitely think the math/research programs that you applied for will help- If you don’t mind I’m curious as to which programs you applied for. So here goes nothing:

<p>I always feel tremendously underqualified in replying to these, so please feel free to disregard my input.
Your stats are superduper impressive obviously. I think your extracurriculars show a nice focus but also achievements in numerous areas. The only problem I can think of is that admissions people might think “Oh, look, another Asian kid who is good at math.” To combat that perception make sure your essay is fantastic and personal and unique (of course you haven’t heard that a trillion times…). Showing an awareness of social issues, problems in your local community, or challenges faced by people who come from circumstances that are different from yours might help you stand out.
I think you are more than qualified for all the schools on your list. You’ve done all you can do. Good luck!</p>

<p>I have to agree with the above two responses :frowning:
Your GPA is amazing! But like other people said, Ivies are unpredictable, and you are an Asian male interested in mathematics. I think you have a great chance for UCLA and Berkeley, and even the lower Ivies + UChicago. I don’t know if it would be a wise idea to write about your family’s problems, because after all, there are only so many sob stories an admissions officer can handle. (That sounded meaner than I meant it too, sorry!)</p>

<p>The reviews given to you were overly pessimistic. Do not view all of those schools as reaches. Think of it this way instead- with your stats, if you apply to all of them, you will get into at least one, and that one will undoubtedly be awesome! I would say high match for Duke as well as UChicago (maybe even Brown, but that is the one I’m least sure about), but who knows, and I think you will be fine at the Cal schools if you get that 2200+ you are hoping for (or even 2100+). You sound like you are pretty much the valedictorian if you have only gotten one A-.</p>

<p>Thanks ugotserved. For issue of valedictorian, there is a kid(s) in my class with 4.0 UW. However, valedictorian is not solely determined on GPA/rank at my school.</p>

<p>I have a friend who goes to Compton and he told me the campuis is very nice and the professors are helpful. Your SATs are a little bit low, but its probably too late to take them now. Just work on boosting your GPA cause anything below a 4 wont quite cut it.</p>
