Hi guys! I applied to Cornell ILR ED a couple of weeks ago and also applied to a few safeties (state schools) and UMich (OOS, Legacy) EA. I’m planning to apply to more schools such as Boston Univ, NYU, George Washington, and USC. To everywhere other than Cornell I’m applying political sci.
Cornell ILR ED
UMich EA OOS Legacy
BU
NYU
GW
USC
GPA: 95.5/100
Rank: Top 15%
ACT: 34C with highest subscores of 36S, 36E, 35R, and 32M (technically a superscore of 35 but most schools don’t superscore)
Applying for FA: yes
Race: White (Middle Eastern)
I’ve taken 4 APs (gotten two 3s, a 4, and a 5) and I’m taking five this year
EC: President of Equality Club, President of National English Honor Society, Captain of Mock Trial, Senior Editor of newspaper, secretary of another club and then three or four other clubs and every academic honor society (i put these under honors on common app, not activities except for NEHS)
Work experience: Over the summer full time intern at a laboratory
Community service- not a ton but I have almost my full school requirement done although I only included CS on my resume, not common app (only submitted resume to cornell)
Essay: common app essay was probably a 7.5 or 8/10, supplements for all schools applied to so far probably an 8.5 or 9/10
Recs
Counselor: 10/10, probably knows me better than any of his other students
Teacher 1: 10/10, loves me and is known for great recs
Teacher 2: 8/10, known for good recs, but is a tough teacher
I’m also a national merit commended scholar and have a few other school awards.
Thanks in advance!
@BreBre235 I’m aware it could be higher, but do you know what schools out of the ones I listed would be matches low reaches high reaches etc? I also think cornell and umich would look at more than just my GPA or do you think that the GPA would make my chances very low?
@icarus29 I am concerned about it, although at this point there’s not much I can do about it. With that being said, UMich does not consider rank at all. Do you have any comments on the schools I listed and whether theyd be reaches or matches?
I’d say Cornell is a high reach, NYU is a low reach. BU and UMich may be low reach/high match. I’m not very sure, but you’ll get into some good university for sure
I’d say you have a 40-60% chance at Cornell ED since you have good test scores even if your GPA is a little lower. Also, good extracurriculars. Good luck!!
