Please chance me for: Cornell EARLY DECISION and Carnegie Mellon

Major : Computer Science

NOTE:I was really immature and stupid when I started high school, and got so much more smarter as I approached senior year, so maybe the upward trend will help?

Hooks
Over the summer I went to a diffrent country and saw how smart the students there were and became motivated and from then on vowed to do better in math and science! This will most likely be my Essay Topic. I will also emphasize my passion for computer science on my application, and passion is always a plus.

Chance me with all of the stats above please!

Cornell ED: Reach/Low Reach (What college are you applying to specifically?)
Carnegie Mellon: Low Reach

I think if you have a valid explanation it would be beneficial to add a reason in your Common App. However if you were just “f- around,” I wouldnt suggest writing anything. haha Judging from your overall GPA and scores however, I dont think you were just messing around for the hell of it, so if I were you, I’d write something.

Overall a very strong application. The colleges will certainly appreciate your motivation and grade increases. However, your rank and freshmen year grades may still hurt you somewhat. That being said, you have great SAT and course load. Areas that can use improvement may be your ECs. I think that you have a very inspirational essay topic and if you write it well, we may just see each other next year! (Assuming I get into Cornell ED also haha)

Best of luck!

Chance me back? : )
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1004303-chance-me-chocolate-chip-cookie.html

Your total GPA is 94.6% yet your rank is 69/185? Is there a typo in there or does your school have some major grade inflation? The top 30% of your school has a 95 average or better…wow. Your hooks don’t really qualify as hooks, although it could make a good essay topic, I suppose. Your ECs are average, but your SAT scores are great. I agree with the “low reach” given by the above poster.

maybe b/c your extra curriculars, i would say that Cornell is a reach for you, but if you do early decision at cornell, i think you might have a chance. i actually might recommend applying EA to carnegie mellon if they have it because it shows dedicated interest to their school and givers you a better chance, and if you got into cornell, it would be non binding.

chance me back at University of Chicago Early Admission Chance

@AnonymousStudent: Cornell ED is binding regardless of what schools you apply to for EA

Thanks for the chances , im just worried that my rank will be my undoing :(

Hopefully they wont put too much weight on the rank alone, and note the upward trend.

bump, any more chances :)?

and is rank really THAT important??

Rank is very important. It’s huge. Look at those schools’ admissions stats- few are below the 10th %ile.
Where else are you applying?

Im also applying to Carnegie Mellon, and Boston University but my dream school is Cornell, and I really wish I could go back in time and realize how dumb I was in 9th grade, but wishing to go back in time is dumb itself, and I should plan for the future instead… Hopefully I get into Cornell :(
