I said a bump bump bumpity bump
Solid ECs, great test scores, but the GPA may hold you back.
I would say Cornell is a low reach and NYU is a high match
Thanks man. I thought so. I hope ED 1 isn’t easier than ED 2, because if it is, I would’ve used my ED 1 on NYU instead of Cornell.
Oh well.
Cornell will be a reach, not a low reach. Remember, while Cornell may have the lowest acceptance rate of any Ivy, it also has one of the most difficult curriculum. They want to make sure you can do the work, and your GPA shows that you may suffer in Cornell’s intense, cutthroat environment. Also, your test scores are average to below average for Cornell, and none of your ECs really make you stand out. NYU is probably still a high match though, but it will depend on the school you’re applying to (Stern, Tisch, etc.)
@BabylonBabylon
Ugh, that’s disappointing. I should’ve done ED 1 for NYU instead of ED 2. Oh well, too late now.
Thanks though.
SAT’s and GPA is kinda low.
@qijianzhou
I knew the GPA was low, but I hoped that course rigor would offset it…?
And SAT is pretty average for stern and Cornell. But yeah, I agree. It could be better.
GPA is low, but not terrible for consideration at Cornell. Also, Cornell only considers Math and Critical reading, which for you is a 1450, which is about average. @BabylonBabylon has it just about right, Cornell has the highest Ivy acceptance rate, but is known to be the toughest to graduate from not necessarily because people are cutthroat, but because it’s difficult to achieve a high grade since the classes are so hard as should be expected at a top university.
Yes, your rigor is there, but Ivies want high GPA + high rigor.
Since you already turned in your apps, why not just relax for now.
@rdeng2614
I don’t know. I constantly live in regret wondering if I should’ve done things differently. It’s a bad habit. I need to stop, you’re right.
@IndoorCloud25
yeah, i get that. Nothing to do but wait and see, I guess.
GPA and SAT are both fine. In fact both schools only consider Math and Critical reading so you are fine. 1440 is definitely sufficient, and slightly above the average at both schools… Its gonna depend on if a 3.65 is good from your school or if its is below average.
@SternBusiness
My school has a record of all past applicants that I was gonna check tomorrow.
It’s a pretty competitive, good school. Best in the state, one of the toughest in the country (i remember hearing). So 3.65 from my school is pretty decent.
Still wishing I did ED 1
