Chance me for Cornell Engineering ED?

Hello all,
I was wondering if you guys could chance me for Cornell ED engineering.

Stats:
GPA: 3.7 (yeah I know - but I have a strong upwards trend and a real reason to why my GPA was so low freshman and sophomore year)
SAT: 2300 (CR: 800, Math: 770, Writing: 730)
SAT 2’s: Math - 760, Chem - 730 (planning to retake)

Extracurriculars:
President and Founding Member of a community science fair (I also judge it) and of a science carnival
Computer science summer internship at national labs - 2 years - worked with supercomputers and wrote particle physics simulations
Member of ____ team’s (for the sake of anonymity) International Student Cluster Competition (prestigious and usually available to undergrads only) and attended International Supercomputing Competition
Siemens Science Fair - results come out sometime in October
5 year science fair competitor and winner (numerous awards)

Essays:
Common App - Wrote about my love for supercomputing and how as a geek and girl, I believe in intersectionality. Focused on my experience at ISC. Of course, it has room to improve, but I think it’s good for now.

Cornell Engineering - Wrote about how I started programming at a young age and turned to supercomputing.

Rec Letters:
Got one from my mentor from my internship - guessing it will be good since I worked with undergrads and wrote a MD simulation on my own … Talked to her everyday and established a pretty cool relationship with her.
Another one from my mentor at ISC - will probably be good as well
Another from adult mentor from the community science fair - been with her for four years and she’s seen my improvement so I think this one will be good as well

Teacher Recs:
One from chem teacher - Loves me considering I was one of the only people who got A’s in her class second semester. I TA for her now and talk to her alot.
One from lit teacher - Was relatively quiet in her class, but she used one of my essays as an example so … And I did well in her class. Also, she’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met so I’m hoping this one won’t be too shabby.

Upper-middle class Asian female from California.

Strengths: Extracirrculars, SAT 1 score
Weaknesses: GPA, race

I would like to add that I go to one of the most competitive high schools in the nation.

Your chances look very good! Best of luck!

Same as @Renomamma, but you should explain about your GPA so it doesn’t interfere

Thanks @Renomamma and @pmegmxn !

I was just wondering how I should explain it (violent, unexpected death of beloved family dog, parents considering a divorce) without sounding like I’m whining and complaining.

Try to talk more about how you reacted rather than how they affected you. Say that you were confused or hurt and your priorities god a little messed up; perhaps tell them that your emotions got in the way but you realized it soon enough to get back on track or something. Just try to maintain a neutral and mmm humble tone so it doesn’t sound like a tantrum or like you’re blaming someone else. They don’t wanna know whose fault is it, they want to know that you got back up.

That information could be included in your school counselor’s letter. Ask him/her about that. It’s nice when the counselor can mention these things so you don’t have to come off as a whiner.

Does it really help to apply ED to Cornell engineering? Trying to offer advice and can’t decide which is better route - holding off to get more full information or kind of rush now to get the application in for ED at either Cornell or Brown. FYI, the advisee has pretty good stats: ACT composite = 34 (math = 35); SAT Subject tests: Math II = 800; Physics = 710; unweighted GPA = 4.0, weighted = 4.91 and ranked first in class; was recruited for sports by d1 schools but chose not to go that route. Course load very rigorous, including two years of calc completed already. Anybody out there wanna chance this applicant for Cornell engineering, ED versus RD?

@profdad2021 I can’t tell whether you’re asking people to chance you or not, but I would appreciate it if you could make a separate thread rather than trying to hijack this one. Thanks.

ahh, perhaps that was the unintentional intent. faux pas acknowledged. regrets conveyed. onward and upward.

Hey guys. I accidentally typed in the wrong GPA (SMH - I pulled an all-nighter the night before) in my original post. It’s actually 3.61.
