Notes: I am applying undecided for CAS as I am equally interested in both economics and sociology. Hope that facilitates everyone’s holistic judgement of my application. Thank you in advance for your valuable inputs.

I’d say you have a very good chance because of your class ranking and everything else seems decent to great even for an ORM. Around 20-40%, given that cas regular is around 12% and that the pool is more competitive.

I am giving you a range because the reality is that admissions depends on how lenient CAS is towards ORMs this year and also your school’s historical trend of getting ppl into Cornell A&S (since admissions are done by school in Cornell). You can have the highest scores but if your school is not looked well upon by top schools your chances can be deeply hurt. It also works adversely - if your high school has good ties with the college and has a history of getting ppl into good schools then ur chances would be better even if ur scores are low.

I think it is a great choice that you are applying as an undecided for CAS! It seems like you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the response. I just couldn’t decide between sociology and economics. Also, I have a deepening interest in business and management and thought ILR is a combination of both business and economics. Any more chances? Bump!

Anybody here?

did you append your publications as application supplements? that’s definitely something that stands out to me.

other than that, it’s hard to say. I’m not sure how much more difficult it is for canadian applicants than it is for US ones, but I can say Cornell does take alot of Canadians. Standard stats look quite good, ECs and other intangibles do look well above average.

@ixdemosthenes Yes, I sent my research paper to Cornell University. I also added both of my research abstracts on the Additional Information section of the Common Application. Being Canadian and an international student is definitely a minus (maybe even an anti-hook), but I hope the admissions officers see through my ethnicity and heritage. Thank you for your response.

While Canadians are technically international, I’m under the impression that they have greater odds than a comparable applicant from elsewhere. This is purely anecdotal of course.
