I absolutely love spanish and went to Spain last summer to study abroad. Received 6 credits from a university and skipped a year of spanish at school. I have gotten A+'s in all of my spanish classes and my latin classes. Also know hebrew and attend a separate school every sunday for 4 hours to continue learning hebrew. I want to major in spanish and will be applying ED to Cornell. What are my chances then??? Thank you in advance!

I had similar stats and fewer ECs and was waitlisted (at college of Engineering though). Given legacy status, I’d say you’ve got an extremely good shot.

Thanks!! Anyone else??

Strong chance. Legacy, strong sat and gpa, a love of foreign language. If you ED, you will be celebrating come dec 15

Bump 10char

Bumpppppppp

I think your chances are very good.

what jengajenga said.

hf at cornell broo~

Be sure to apply ED; at Cornell legacy reportedly doesn’t count in favor of RD applicants.

very very good chances, although I’m a HS student, so I only know from admitted students I know. Even without the legacy, you have the stats to be a competitive candidate.

why not apply to the other ivies? your stats are phenomenal, Cornell is a great school, but you should also give your chance a shot at Harvard/Columbia, Princeton, Yale.

I agree with Bing, especially because of the nature of these applications; if you have the stats to get in, it doesn’t guarantee anything. I’m no expert on college admissions, but it almost seems random acceptances and rejections after the outliers are taken in. So, shotgun approach: more likely to get in if you apply to more colleges.

lol you really think so? I mean compared to other kids at my school I’m average. The only thing that stands out to me is my great skill with foreign languages. Does that seem really good or do many kids have that?

bump bumpp

Your stats are good and legacy status will also help (especially if you apply ED). Also, don’t forget that geography is a factor. If you are from the Midwest or Western states, it will be easier for you to get in than if you are from Long Island or New Jersey. Good luck, Jackuk.

There’s an entire forum for chances:
[What Are My Chances? - College Confidential](Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums)
Remember, people responding to ‘chances’ generally have no inside information. Perhaps they have applied, or read admissions blogs. They are giving an opinion that may be based on their experience with a specific department that may not apply to you, or even based on misinformation (and there is a lot of it out there). Take it all with a grain of salt. Best of luck!

Chance threads are stupid. Please contain them in the What are my chances sub-forum.
