Expecting my essays and recommendations to be great from both teachers and counselors.

Looks like you will have an excellent shot! Though this somehow seems to be not humanly possible.

Oh really?! I just did a LOT of work over the summers to make this happen. What stands out to you as “not humanly possible?.”

You have a good number and diversity of ECs with just the right level of depth. Oh, just noticed you’re ORM. Still should have a decent shot though.

@Colene ,But how is it not humanly possible?

Just curious – what do you think your chances are?

What do you view as your strengths and what do you do as your weaknesses.

I think my chances are for every 5 schools of Cornell’s caliber I apply to, 1-2 will take me.

My strengths: I do things that give me pleasure in my life. My extracurriculars revolve around that. Forensics, trumpet, and volunteer-work. I really just want to LEARN. Reading things by myself to just learn items is just what I like to do. My self-studies show that.

My other strengths include time management/planning.

Weaknesses: It makes it seem like I’m just after a test score when I’m really not. I guess I should have gave back to the community a little bit more and had a little bit more of a social life, lol.

There are no guarantees with ivy league admissions, but I think you have an excellent shot if you sell your passion for Cornell with your essays.

Thanks for the response

I’ll chance you (for whatever it’s worth) in return.

Your Grades are Excellent – for any school in the US.
Your ACT/SAT II is Excellent – for any school in the US.
Your ECs are probably above average for schools of this caliber. There are tremendous strengths, though not a WOW activity.
Your Leadership is ok.
Your community service looks fine – the Reading Program looks especially impressive.

Essays and Recs – to be honest, everyone thinks theirs are great. And from a technical standpoint, I’m sure all of the essays are. If you can make yours stand out, your application will be greatly enhanced.

Overall, your application will be Competitive to Strong at schools of Cornell’s caliber. There is not a school in the US I would recommend against your applying to. Other than that, I don’t do percentages – unless one is in admissions, I don’t think any of us have the ability make such predictions,.

Thank you so much. I wasn’t expecting a percentage – just validation that my feet can at least reach the doorstep and I won’t receive outright rejection. Thank you.

"Thank you so much. I wasn’t expecting a percentage – just validation that my feet can at least reach the doorstep and I won’t receive outright rejection. Thank you. "

With schools like Cornell (and other schools at this level too), there is still a chance that you still might get that (a more than fair number of well-qualified kids have). It’s just that that chance is fairly low relative to others given your caliber as a student.

What school are you applying to within cornell?

OP was outed elsewhere on CC as a sophomore posting a “projected” resume. So, OP will probably not be applying to any school at Cornell for at least a couple of years.

What, you just posted in the ACT forum asking how to get a 28 ACT up…
