I'm going into senior year attending a competitive high school. I plan on applying to either Tufts or Cornell for Early Decision, and University of Michigan for Early Action. In addition, I would apply to Vanderbilt, Washington University in St. Louis, Columbia University, JHU, and Northwestern for regular decision, with University of Rochester and SUNYs as safeties. My intended major is going to be engineering, probably electrical engineering.

Here's my stats:

GPA (out of 5): 4.99 (W), 4.67 (UW); I'm ranked in the top 20% (my school uses a quintile system)

CR - 650
Writing - 690 with a 12 essay
SAT Subject Scores: Math II: 750, Chem: 790

Soo, what are my chances (probably not good for the top schools lol)? Thanks in advance.

Your GPA looks solid, but that SAT score is going to bring down your chances of admission considerably. Also, your extracurriculars don’t seem very impressive.

Since Cornell’s engineering programming is one of the best in the country, I’d say that your chances of admission are going to be low. Columbia and NU Engineering are also going to be reaches, but you still have a reasonable shot to good shot at Michigan, Vandy, and WUSTL.

idk wat you two are talking about. you have done very well. i would say you have a 99% chance for UMich. I say that because i am a freshman at the college of engineering so i know pretty much what it takes to get in. you should also be admitted to Northwestern university. the only schools that u should have some trouble being accepted are Cornell and Columbia. Columbia especially has a reputation for rejection some of the brightest students so i wouldnt count on that school. I would go for UMich because you will also get a scholarship there for you accolades and you AP scores will help you tremendously as you will not have to take Calc or chem your freshmen year. hope this helps

Some people honestly on here will say that any top 100 university is a reach if you don’t have a 2400 and a 4.0 UW. That’s honestly ridiculous. Your test scores are good not great, but they are in the mid-50 range for Cornell and Columbia. Your GPA would translate to a 3.74 on a 4.0 scale, which is definitely right around average for those schools.

Columbia - High Reach (Very selective school that’s a toss-up for most people)
Cornell - Reach (Least selective Ivy, accepted over 20% of applicants last year)
JHU - Reach
Michigan - Match
Northwestern - Match
Washington - IN
Vanderbilt - Match
