Chance me for Cornell? WILL CHANCE BACK! PLEASE!

Hi everyone. Can someone give me an idea of what my chances are for Cornell? I'm interested in their Biological Engineering program. I've already applied of course, but I'm just wondering.

I'm 17 years old, a Male, a HS Senior, Egyptian, first generation living in US, and I speak fluent Arabic and English.

SAT (taken twice)-
Math:750
Reading:730
Writing:770
Total:2250

SAT Subject Tests-
Math Level 2: 760
Physics: 750
Biology: 750

AP's-
Biology: 5
Physics B: 5
Physics C Mechanics: 4
US History: 3 (but i guess I don't have to report it)
Currently a Senior taking AP Chem, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus BC

EC's-

Math League (senior mentor)
Science Olympiad (senior mentor, basically I'm the guy in charge)
School Newspaper (head of tech section)
I own a website thats committed to ancient egyptian advancements in architecture and medicine (since I am Egyptian)
My school has literally no sports teams -_- so I keep fit by running and swimming (I have some talent)

Volunteer Experience-
250+ Hours (and counting) volunteering at a Hospital, in the pharmacy and patient admissions departments
I generally Volunteer at school when I can
I am part of a fundraising team at my local mosque, we have raised tons of money for a wide range of causes (needy families in NJ/NY, refugees in Syria, etc.)

Awards-
National Merit Commended (PSAT of 203)
AP Scholar with Honor Award
Honor Roll in 10th, 11th, and 12th
A few Science Olympiad awards here and there

GPA/ Class Rank-
Ok, so this is where I take a HUGE blow:
9th GPA: 3.15 (but I didn't take all honors that year)
10th GPA: 3.95
11th GPA: 3.82
Total High School GPA: 3.65 (W) should be about 3.55 UW. I must stress the fact that my school hardly does any weighting at all

My School doesn't rank in any way.

So this is the problem, everything seems fine, but my GPA is horrible, all because of 9th Grade. My guidance counselor has said that it is the only thing that may stop me from getting into a high ranking college. Do you think that Cornell may notice that my performance improved drastically after 9th Grade? I'm doing fine in school right now and can expect a good mid year report. I wrote my essay about how I decided to improve my grades and take all honors after 9th grade. I got rec's from my AP Bio teacher, AP Calc BC teacher, and English teacher. Any idea of what my chances are? Thanks in advance.

I'll do my best to chance back by the way.

Egyptian wont help you much, since North African and MIddle Eastern are considered as white (It’s weird, I know). But I dont think you need that status to help you get in to Cornell, because your stats are solid, except your GPA (as you mentioned it). However, since you have done well in your subject tests, and your SAT is good, I think it will show the admissions at Cornell that you have what it takes to do well there. Your 9th grade gpa doesn’t really count much in the process. Did you get all As in your first semester of senior year? That would be very beneficial towards your chances. If so, I would say that it’s a low reach. Also, can you chance me back? My forum is in the first page.

You sound similar to me. And I think it is a low reach or a high match. Since you improved throughout high school I think you’ll be fine.

This looks low to mid reach to me for Cornell, especially if you’re in the RD pool. SAT’s are fine, activities look okay but not standout, and grades are problematic. If someone sees something in your folder that speaks to them, they may get past the grades (not saying they’re terrible, but any of these schools has a superabundance of kids without question marks). Good luck!

It’s a reach because of GPA and because Cornell is just harddd but you never know and you definitely have a shot

Though it is considered white, middle eastern is actually a HUGE help to you. The only reason it isn’t an URM is because there aren’t enough. You’ve got the upper hand on this!

Yeah, I wouldn’t count on that being a hook. It may nor may not be. First generation in this country might help. Are you first generation going to college? In any case, it’s out of your hands now. It wasn’t a total long shot–you’re in the range ITO scores, certainly, and past that is anybody’s guess. No one is a sure thing unless their last name is Cornell. :-)

If I had to put odds on it, 40%.

Thanks guys! Yes, I am first generation by the way. Lets hope things go my way! Good luck to all with your applications. @charlucas @SurvivorFan @BA1015CA @Yeezus @Classof2018app @ShowMeState700

Btw, when did you move to the U.S? I’m sure that if you have had to deal with English as a second language when in middle or high school, they will see that as a plus, since you have had to deal with ESL while dealing with school work and SATs.

I was the first member of my family born in the U.S. My parents moved here a few years before I was born. I’m also the first member of my family to attend college in the U.S… I thought thats what first generation means lol, sorry if I gave you guys the wrong idea. But hey, is it still a plus? @Classof2018app

I would say Cornell is a low reach/high match

the first generation college student is a plus for sure. Not too sure about Middle Eastern (I am from Iran, would be great if that is the case). Anyways, the first gen college student will help. Best of luck

I hope so lol, thanks for the reply @gman333

I am not so sure being Middle Eastern really helps one, as it is not an under-represented minority. If I were you, I would really talk about that Egyptian Website in your Essays and Interviews. That is unique. Your test scores are good. I would say you are qualified for Cornell, but they reject thousands or qualified applicants every year, so it is kind of a crapshoot.

reach…

high match low reach. Please chance back

I’d say High Match/ Low Reach. Chance me Back?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1609800-chance-me-for-nyu-i-ll-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

Cornell - low reach

Your GPAs are a bit low, but you can make those parts up with other aspects in your app. Scores are great - it depends on your other intangibles like essays.

Good luck!

Comments on my apps?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1609820-urgent-help-am-i-really-doomed-to-lose-schooling-or-go-to-a-community-college-will-chance-u-back.html#latest</a></p>

low reach. You have a really strong everything except for gpa, that is the only thing thats holding you back
